BRUNSWICK, Maine --- First-year goalkeeper Emily Brook stopped 12 shots for the Colby College women's soccer team and the Mules settled for a 0-0 tie with Bowdoin College on Saturday in New England Small College Athletic Conference play.
The Polar Bears move to 3-3-3 (0-3-3 NESCAC) by playing their sixth overtime contest in nine games this fall. Colby stands at 4-4-1 (1-4-1 NESCAC) after the deadlock.
Bowdoin controlled the pace in the early going, taking a 9-3 edge in shots in the opening half, but were unable to find the back of the net thanks to six first-half saves from Brook. Colby had the best chance of either team to take the lead in the second half when Marissa Simmons came loose in the box and ripped a shot that hit the crossbar with 37 minutes to go.
Maddie Lane, making her first career start in goal for Bowdoin, was not forced to make a save until late in the second half, but it loomed large, as she broke up a Colby breakaway to force the extra session.
Lane made another nice diving stop just seconds into overtime, and stopped four shots overall the overtime session to finish with five for the game. Bowdoin's best chance to end it came with 7:00 left in the second overtime when Casey Blossom took a shot from the wing that was smothered by Brook.
