WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College women's soccer team had five different scorers and moved to 2-0 overall after a 5-1 non-conference victory over University of New England in the home opener for the Mules.
Ruthie Hawley (Poulsbo, Wash.), Annie Papadellis (Hopkinton, Mass.), and Abby Hatch (Wilbraham, Mass.) all had one goal and one assist for the Mules. Emily Anderson (Grafton, Mass.), who scored in a 2-1 road win a year ago, and Maddie Tight (San Rafael, Calif.) also tallied for the winners.
The Nor'easters (2-4 overall) took a 1-0 lead about seven minutes into the contest when Kristin Dechene (Nashua, N.H.) scored her third goal of the season off a pass from Jayne Kelly (Hooksett, N.H.).
Colby went ahead 2-1 at halftime thanks to scores by Hawley at 21:26 off a pass from Papadellis, who scored about five minutes later from Alex Yorke (Chicago, Ill.).
The game stayed close until Anderson gave the Mules a little breathing room at 3-1 at 62:06 from Carly Dee (Wellesley, Mass.). Colby added two goals in the final six minutes from Tight off a pass from Hatch, who then added the fifth goal on a dish from Hawley.
Colby has scored seven goals in two games this season and all have come from different players.
Emily Brook (Duxbury, Mass.) played the first half and had to make no saves while earning the win, while Jayde Bennett (Lynn, Mass.) stopped two shots in the second half for the Mules.
UNE keeper Sarah Papapietro (Bonita, Calif.) made 10 saves.
Colby will play host to Middlebury College on Saturday at 11 a.m., while UNE heads to Western New England for a 2:30 p.m. game on the same day.
