Women's squash falls in first match at nationals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --- Colby College's Kate Pistel (Amherst, Mass.) won her 20th match of the season and moved within one win of 50 for her career, but 20th-ranked Wesleyan University took a 6-3 win over the Mules in the opening round of Walker Cup play at the College Squash Association Team Championships on Friday at Harvard University.
 
The 21st-ranked Mules will take on 24th-ranked Wellesley College in a consolation round semifinal in the Walker Cup (teams ranked 17th to 24th nationally) at 6 p.m. Saturday.
 
Pistel is 20-7 this season at the first position and 49-25 in her three-year career with the Mules. She was just named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference First Team All-Conference Team on Thursday. Pistel, an All-NESCAC selection in all three years, took a 3-0 win over Mary Foster in the match with Wesleyan.
 
Lindsey McKenna (Fairfield, Conn.) inched closer to 20 wins with a 3-1 win over Lauren Nelson in the third spot. McKenna heads intot he Wellesley match with an 18-9 record.
 
First-year Liz Brehman moved to 14 victories this season with a 3-0 win at the sixth spot.
