MIDDLETOWN, Conn. --- Colby College's Mandy Ferguson (Wilmette, Ill.) swam in her third championship final in as many nights, taking fifth place on Sunday in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Wesleyan University.
Ferguson had an NCAA 'B' cut qualifying time of 17:24.80 and was just over five seconds away from Colby's school record of 17:19.36 set back in 1988. Ferguson also took fourth place in the 1,000 freestyle and eighth in the 500 freestyle.
Charlotte Veazie (Parker, Colo.) had a 2:11.04 to take 18th place in the 200 backstroke. Jess Blais (Rye, N.H.) was just behind her in 19th place with a 2:11.46 and Kayleigh Monahan (Walpole, N.H.) finished 22nd in 2:13.31.
Sarah Hansen (Cazenovia, N.Y.), Rosie Wennberg (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), Veazie, and Ferguson combined to take 10th place in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:37.30.
The Mules placed 10th overall in the three-day meet with 443.5 points.
