HILTON HEAD, S.C. --- Colby College first-year Holly Bogo (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) won a big match at the sixth singles spot and the Mules' first doubles team of Sarah Wiener (Mequon, Wis.) and Tess Perese (Minneapolis, Minn.) took a hard-fought match in a 5-4 women's tennis victory over previously unbeaten University of St. Thomas (Minn.) on Sunday.
Bogo fell 6-1 in the first set at sixth singles, but pulled out a 7-6 (7-2) win to tie the match after two sets. Bogo then fought for a 10-8 win in the super tiebreaker to decide the match.
Wiener and Perese had the same type of pressure in winning 9-8 (7-4) at first doubles. Perese also won 6-3, 7-5 at the first singles spot, while Wiener took a 6-1, 6-3 win at the second position.
Sally Holmes (Prairie Village, Kansas) earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at the fifth singles position.
The Colby women (4-1 overall) will play St. Benedict on Monday at 11:30 a.m. St. Thomas fell to 7-1 overall.
