Women's tennis loses tight matches in setback to Bates

LEWISTON, Maine --- The Colby College women's tennis team made an 8-1 loss to 28th-ranked Bates College look really close Monday in New England Small College Athletic Conference play.

The Mules (10-6 overall, 1-4 NESCAC), unfortunately, lost all four close matches. Bates moved to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Sally Holmes took a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Audrey Grauer at fifth singles for the lone Colby victory. 

The Mules lost the first doubles match in a tiebreaker and lost three singles matches in super tiebreakers. The Bobcats took a 3-0 lead after doubles play, but Colby's Sarah Wiener and Tess Perese battled hard in a 9-8 (12-10) setback to Elena Mandzhukova and Ashley Brunk at first doubles.

Victoria Abel, Mckenzie Love, and Holly Bogo all lost super tiebreakers to decide their matches. Bogo had the tightest singles match of the day, falling 3-6, 7-6 (4), (11-9) at the sixth spot.
