LEWISTON, Maine --- Colby College's Sarah Wiener and Kathryn Vergeyle came up just short of advancing past the opening round of doubles play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England Region Championships on Friday.
 
The Colby pair fell 9-8 (4) to Jaimi Inskeep and Clair Oblamski of Smith College at Bates College.
 
In singles play, Wiener fell 6-2, 6-1 to Lindsay Katz of Tufts in the first round. Tess Perese also dropped her opening round match in a 6-2, 6-2 setback to Lauren Quisenberry of MIT.
