BOSTON, Mass. --- Frances Onyilagha broke the Colby College women's indoor track and field record in the 200 dash and Berol Dewdney ran a personal-best time in the 5,000-meter run at the Valenine's Classic at Boston University.
Onyilagha had a time of 25.65 to finish in 23rd place in the huge meet. The 200 dash had 168 competiors from all divisions from as far away as Florida. Club teams and unattached athletes also competed in the meet.
Dewdney's goal before the meet was to break 18 minutes and she smashed that by finishing 25th with time of 17:47.68. Dewdney could moved into the top 20 nationally among Division III runners. Colby's Emily Harper placed 49th in the 5,000 meters in 19:18.16, Sylvia Doyle was 51st with a 19:33.77, and Rachel Frenkil took 52nd at 19:38.99. Harper and Frenkil both had personal records.
Brittney Bell had a season-best time of 59.84 in the 400 dash to finish in 62nd place out of 139 competitors. Meanwhile, Brittany Colford had a season-best 2:28.22 in finishing 110th in the 800 meters.
Robyn St. Laurent ran 3:09.77 in taking 51st in the 1,000 meters and teammate Michaela Swiatek was 56th with a 3:10.95. Both runners qualified for the New England Division III meet next weekend.
Kate Connolly finished 115th in the mile with a 5:26.33 clocking and Sophie Weaver was 120th in 5:28.88. Both women had personal records and Connolly qualfied for the New England Division III meet.
