Course Information:

Lectures, videos, and discussions of assigned readings during the first week on campus will be followed by a 19-day field trip to Belize.  Students will be required to design and complete a short research project in addition to compiling a detailed field notebook.

Cost: 2007 cost will be $2990, covering transportation (including air travel from Boston), llodging, three meals daily, and local group expenses.  Costs are based on an enrollment of 18 students. Limited scholarship funds are available to students on financial aid. 

Objective:

• To observe and study in detail selected tropical fauna and flora of Belize .
• Identify fauna and flora indigenous to the area.
• Qualitative and quantitative field investigations will emphasize the ecological relationships in coral reefs, seagrass beds, and tropical rain forests.
• Environmental challenges of living in a tropical country will also be investigated.
