Adequate
Partial
Poor
CEAT completed a buffer strip survey of both lakes in which we ranked buffers on % lakeshore buffer coverage, buffer depth from the shoreline, the slope between the house and the shore, and the buffer composition.
Scores were tallied and buffers were categorized as adequate, partial, or poor.
Examples of each buffer category are shown below.
The best buffers would have a good variety of layers, a deep buffer (house set well back from shoreline), and a relatively flat slope leading down to the lake.
The worst buffers would have little vegetation (grass or dirt), shallow buffer, and steep slope down to water.
