Another feature of roads
that helps prevent erosion are culverts. Culverts divert excess water underneath a road and into
an area where water can be absorbed by vegetation before entering a lake.

an effictive culvert, well
beneath the road surface, free of debris, not rusted, large enough to
accommodate expected max water volume.

Ineffective culvert on
right, too close to surface leads to damage, rusted, even a hole. Not very
effective at diverting water underneath the road.
