The soil map is show here.  It was obtained from the Kennebec Soil and Water Conservation District.  What youÕre seeing are locations of the various soil types within the watershed.  Soils are classified by there physical description and composition.  However, the limitations of the soils for various uses is also included in the description.  Septic suitability is one of these and soils are rated as suitable, moderately suitable, and unsuitable.  Soils that are either too porous or too clayey do not filter effluent and the septic system fails.  Nutrients are not processed and end up in the lake.
