| *The primary objective of
this study was to determine the ecological health of Togus Pond which
includes its |

| trophic state, capacity
to support wildlife, ability to support the current level of
development or future growth in development, and its safety for
recreational use by nearby residents and visitors. |

| *Pollution of the lake by
chemicals or sediments lowers water quality, affecting all of these factors. |
|
| So the best indicator of the
ecological condition of the lake, is its general water quality. |
|
| *Land use patterns in a
watershed have a significant impact on the health of an associated water
body. Different land uses
produce different types and amounts of both man-made and natural pollutants. |
|
| *By monitoring water quality
we are able advise planning for future development and protection of the
lake. We developed a Phosphorous
Loading Model that was used to predict the effects of further development on
nutrient loading in Togus Pond |

| *Having identified the most
important issues of lake water quality and land use, the next step is to
learn how to improve them. We
will present a variety of commonly used techniques in this report for
improving lakes with poor water quality |
