We used GIS to make an
Erosion Potential Model for the Togus Pond watershed. Models are maps that combine several
input factors that are weighted to show how they might interact. The Erosion Potential Model consists
of the characteristics of the watershed that contribute most to erosion. These characteristics are slope, soil
type, proximity to the lake, and land use types. For each of these factors, we created maps that had a
range of scores from 1-9. Each
of these factors were then weighted by the extent to which they are likely to
cause erosion that impacts the lake.
The weighted scores were plotted on a final map.
