Togus Pond Septic Systems
Remediation
Water conservation
Regular pumping
Landscape improvements
New construction
While septic systems around Togus Pond pose a serious threat to water quality, many things can be done to minimize this.
-Water conservation within the home can make an immediate impact.  Using less water, reduces the flow through the system and allows more time for waste to be processed.
-Regular pumping of the solids in the septic tank will prevent the system for becoming overloaded and clogged.
-Landscape improvements such as planting or improving a buffer strip allows nutrients to absorbed and used by plants outside of the lake
-Constructing new system or replacement systems as far away from the waterline is also a recommended practice.
