| This graph depicts the total
phosphorus concentration in epicore samples collected by CEAT over the past
summer. From June to September,
mean P concentration increased from 15 ppb to 34 ppb. Phosphorus levels were consistently
15 ppb or higher, which explains the algal bloom in Togus Pond last summer. |
|
| Phosphorus increased in the
water column throughout the summer.
The increase over the summer is probably a result of internal
recycling and leakage of phosphorus from the epilimnion or depths of the
lake, into the upper layers. |
