It is important that the
community around Togus Pond be educated on decisions that may effect water
quality.
|
|
One issue is that of
fertilizers and pesticides. We
recommend the use of low phosphorus fertilizers, many of which are available
at stores around the lake.
Pesticides, although they do not contain phosphorus, they contribute
to poor water quality and kill zooplankton important to lake health. The use of these organic practices is
one more step towards better water quality.
|
|
We also recommend the use of
low phosphorus detergents, which can cut the phosphorus input of a septic
system by 50%.
|
|
We suggest that the Lake
Association make pamphlets or posters available to the lake residents in
order to promote the use low phosphorus fertilizers, pesticides, and
detergents.
