There are several remediation techniques which will help to mediate the impacts of development on China Lake.
All statewide and town regulations in the shoreline zone need to be enforced.
Buffer strips should be maintained and expanded across entire length of lot and up to 75 ft of deep where possible.  They also should be composed of several layers including trees, shrubs, and ground cover.

Septic systems need to be monitored and maintained and when necessary replaced.  Please see our handout on the DEPs septic system maintenance tips.  Shoreline residents can assist in the towns efforts to update records of septic system permits and design plans.  China might also need to consider proposing incentives to replace grandfathered systems that might be contributing to nutrient loading.

Finally commercial and residential development needs to be undertaken in a conscious and sustainable manner.

Jackie Rolleri will now continue our development presentation.
