Gloeotrichia is a cyanobacteria or Blue Green Algae
It is becoming increasingly present in Great Pond, and subsequently the other belgrade lakes.
G is a photosynthetic bacteria that starts its life cycle at the lake bottom
When there is enough sunlight present it begins to photosynthesize in shallow parts of the lake
From here it picks up oxygen and begins to move towards the surface
Here the population expands creating in some places during the summer a thick colonization of gleoetrichia several meters into the water column

It was seen in Long Pond, and Messalonksee this past summer
