This table shows the 11
invasive aquatic plant species considered threats to Maines inland waters.
The most recent surveys indicate that none have been found in Long Pond,
although the presence of
variable-leaf watermilfoil
has been confirmed in Messalonskee lake. This finding suggests that a local
threat exists and warrants some cause for concern. The lake and, more
specifically, the boat ramp in the
South Basin of Long Pond should continue to be monitored
in order to prevent the introduction of these unwanted species.
