Historical Phosphorus Data
Picture 3.png
Here is the historical phosphorus levels measured in past studies of Pattee Pond.  The red line across the graph represents the 12 parts-per-billion phosphorus.  The Maine Department of Environmental Protection says there is the possibility for algal blooms to occur in lakes in the range from 12 parts-per-billion phosphorus.  As you can see, for much of its recent history Pattee Pond has been above this level, and as with the transparency there is a natural fluctuation, though there has been a decrease seen since the maximum in 1994.  This is another point which shows that through the past efforts of the PatteeÕs Pond Association and other residents, water quality in the lake has generally improved.  However, not all is perfect, as I will show you our findings for phosphorus levels at Site 1.
