First I will describe some general characteristics about the population demographics and economy of Winslow because these two factors are important to keep in mind when making projections for the future.

Total Population: 7,743 (in 2000)

We found that one of the key characteristics of Winslow is that the population is aging.
Aging Population
   - Median Age = 41 (one of the highest median ages in the region and also increased the most, 6    years, between the 1990 and 2000 censuses)
   - Baby Boomers in the area are retiring and retirees from other parts of New England are moving    to the area to retire
   - Migration, including immigration and emigration of people, accounts for 83% of population    changes. This is important to consider when we look at the age structure of the population. The    age structure in this graph is represented by the percent of people that fall in 7 different age    ranges.
   * Ages 18-34 leaving in search of educational and job opportunities elsewhere
   * Age structure is skewed towards older generations
