As shown in the previous
slide, Net inputs of water into the watershed equal 26 million cubic meters
of water. If we divide this number by the volume of Pattee Pond, we can find
the flushing rate. We found a flushing rate of 2.72 flushes per year. This means
the lakes water is replaced almost three times every year. This rate is
slightly higher that the DEPÕs reported rate, most likely because we used a
more detailed watershed boundary to calculate the area of the watershed.

2.72 is a high flushing
rate. It means that nutrients will cycle quickly through the lake. As
mentioned before, the water quality of lakes with high flushing rates is
depended on the quality of surface water entering them. A high flushing rate
often means that the lake will respond faster to remediation techniques.
