JOB DESCRIPTIONS FOR LAKE STUDY - FIELD COMPONENT

1. DATA ACQUISITION COORDINATORS - Three People
Responsibilities:
1. Will plan field day sampling and road analysis. They will develop the assignment sheets for detailing the samples to be gathered and roads to be analyzed in each subwatershed will write up instruction sheets for each field team. They will need to keep track of the work accomplished in order to plan the next week�s activities.
2. Ultimate responsibility for preparing equipment for the field including checking all batteries (and assuring extras are available), standardizing when necessary, and packaging for transportation. The equipment coordinator must be familiar with the use and maintenance of each piece of field equipment. He/she should be able to train others in the use of specific items of equipment.
3. Coordinate the bottle preparation and labeling for water sampling. Responsible for assuring that the bottles are properly cleaned and prepared for use. These coordinators establish (in consultation with the faculty) and enforce the labeling protocol for the firm. Assures that all bottles are properly labeled before use.
4. Coordinate acquisition, use, and storage of written resources by the firm including maps of watershed, sampling sites, etc. Maintain organization of resources as the project progresses, especially in the resource drawers. They will also be responsible for organizing the various computer files that are produced by the firm and archiving the files no longer in use.
5. Coordinate the collation and storage of the firm�s data. Prepare field data sheets in appropriate format. Maintain a hard copy of all data gathered from water quality and land use investigations. Construct and maintain a computer listing of all data.
Qualifications:
1. Familiarity with field equipment. Good organizational and problem solving skills. Ability to take initiative, motivate, and provide leadership to in preparing for field sampling.
2. LAND USE ANALYSIS SUPERVISORS - Three People
Responsibilities:
1. Have responsibility for setting up, using, and training people to use the digitizing and image analysis equipment. Coordinate use and standardize techniques (and constants) used by members of the firm.
Qualifications:
1. These people should be willing to become intimately familiar with the use of the digitizing and image analysis equipment. Attention to detail, good memory, and patience to teach others how to use the system.
3. GIS SUPERVISORS - Three People
Responsibilities:
1. Ultimate responsibility for coordinating use of our GIS system. The GIS Supervisor uses the system, trains others to use the system when necessary, and helps solve problems that develop. These people will be the primary GIS users for the class and will also help others with projects that need GIS input. These supervisors must develop a clear understanding of the MacGIS application and its relevance to the Long Lake project.
Qualifications:
1. Attention to detail, good memory, and patience to teach others how to use the system.
4. CHEMICAL ANALYSIS SUPERVISORS FOR WATER CHEMISTRY -Four People
Responsibilities:
1. Ultimate responsibility for coordinating phosphorus analysis of water samples. The Phosphorus Analysis Supervisors train others to use the relevant laboratory equipment and help solve problems that develop. The Phosphorus Analysis Supervisors should coordinate, teach, and conduct analyses with other members of the firm. They need to develop a clear understanding of the relevant methodology as well as use and operation of specific equipment items.
2. Will develop the water and phosphorus budgets for the watershed. They will work with the Development Survey Supervisors in developing the phosphorus loading estimates for the watershed.
3. Ultimate responsibility for coordinating nonphosphorus analyses of water samples. The General Analysis Supervisors train others to use the relevant laboratory equipment and help solve problems that develop. The General Analysis Supervisors should coordinate, teach, and conduct analyses with other members of the firm. They need to develop a clear understanding of the relevant methodology as well as the use and operation of specific equipment items.
Qualifications:
1. Willingness to learn chemical analysis procedures and a good background in chemistry. Good laboratory technique(s) required.
5. DEVELOPMENT SURVEY SUPERVISORS - Four People
Responsibilities:
1. Ultimate responsibility for coordinating septic system study of watershed. The Septic System Supervisors are responsible for obtaining relevant information from town officials. They need to develop an understanding of the status of septic systems throughout the watershed and their potential impacts on lake water quality. Responsible for calculating the septic loading estimates for the watershed.
2. Will provide the roads analysis and the results for house counts. Will also provide demographic projections for the projections to be made with the phosphorus budget.
Qualifications:
1. Good organizational skills. Comfortable meeting new people and making telephone calls.
