JOB DESCRIPTIONS FOR LAKE STUDY

REPORT COMPONENT

1. BACKGROUND AND CITATION EDITOR
Responsibilities
:
*Prepares the introductory section of the report including information describing the area being investigated. Works closely with Preliminary Draft Editors to produce a polished draft report. Creates and maintatins the literature citation computer file.
Qualifications
:
*Organized mind! Ability to conduct effective library searches andto learn appropriate computer applications.

2. DESIGN AND LAYOUT EDITORS
Responsibilities
:
*Work with Design and Layout Editors to propose a logical structure for assembling the various components of the report to clients. Construct the outline format for the final report by integrating component outlines in a creative and logical fashion. Produce the report cover and preface pages.
Qualifications
:
*Organized mind! Willingness to learn appropriate computer applications.

3. CONSISTENCY AND CONTINUITY EDITORS
Responsibilities
:
*Ultimate responsibility for insuring the consistent use of terminology and measurement units throughout the report. Work with the Design and Layout Editors to develop a logical structure for assembling components of the report. Work with Table and Graphics Editors to insure consistency and continuity of all figures and tables.
Qualifications
:
*Great attention to detail, good memory, and persistence to complete assigned asks.

4. TABLE AND GRAPHICS EDITORS
Responsibilities
:
*Determine and verify style and format of all figures and tables in report. Decide which graphics submitted by technical writers are redundant or unnecessary. Work with Consistency and Continuity Editors to insure consistency and continuity in all figures and tables.
Qualifications
:
*Willingness to learn and use graphics software and table feature of Microsoft Word.

5. SCIENCE EDITORS
Responsibilities
:
*Ultimate responsibility for insuring that terminology and methods presented in the report meet criteria acceptable to scientists currently working in the field. The science editors must also insure that the report is accessible and understandable to non-scientists. These editors insure that recommendations made in the report are scientifically sound.
Qualifications
:
*Willingness to examine scientific literature broadly. Completed relevant coursework in statistics and chemistry.

6. PROOF READER AND GRAMMAR CHECKER
Responsibilities
:
*Ultimate responsibility for correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and literature citations in the final report. Works closely with the Background and Citation Editor to assure all references are cited in the text and all cited references appear in the literature cited section of the report.
Qualifications
:
*Attention to detail and willingness to learn and use spelling- and grammar-checking software.

7. PRELIMINARY DRAFT EDITING TEAM
A. PRELIMINARY DRAFT EDITORS

Responsibilities
:
*Coordinate the preliminary draft editing team. Along with speciality editors, edit copy summitted by technical writers. Suggest areas in text needing clarification, greater elaboration, or more concise treatment. These editors are responsible for eliminating redundancy among various sections as draft report is assembled..
Qualifications
:
*Ability to tolerate rough drafts of copy, and to be very tactful with demanding clients and distraught technical writers. Ability to take intiative, motivate, and provide leadership to co-workers.

B. ASSISTANT PRELIMINARY DRAFT EDITORS FOR SECTION COORDINATION
Responsibilities
:
* Assembling and submitting specific sections of report to the Preliminary Draft Editors. Each section editor works closely with the technical writers for their section to develop and assure proper section content and layout Write the summary and recommendations sections of report using comments from each of the working groups.
Qualifications
:
*Flexibility and willingness to work on a variety of projects as assigned by the Preliminary Draft Editors. These people should be willing to become intimately familiar with the use of desktop publishing software and be highly motivated to complete tasks on a timely basis..

8. FINAL REPORT EDITING TEAM
A. FINAL REPORT EDITORS

Responsibilities
:
*Ultimate responsibility for submitting completed final report to clients. These editors work closely with and coordinate the efforts of the speciality editors and Assistant Final Report Editors to complete the final report. The Final Report Editors have sole responsibility for all issues that relate to the production of the final report.
Qualifications
:
* Ability to take intiative, motivate, and provide leadership to co-workers. These people should be willing to become intimately familiar with the use of the desktop publishing software and be highly motivated to complete tasks on a timely basis.

B. ASSISTANT FINAL COPY EDITORS
Responsibilities
:
*Assist Final Report editors.

:
*As listed for assistant preliminary draft editors
