The department has developed a set of objectives to better define our teaching mission. In our discussions of curricular issues these objectives provide our frame of reference and effort is made to make sure students are provided with the things in the list below by the time they complete the major in Biology.
Teaching Objectives -
To give all students in Biology courses, regardless of major, an appreciation for
- the diversity of biological knowledge and
- the methodology of scientific inquiry
- To give our majors a broad education in Biology
- To offer a diverse curriculum to meet the needs of students planning to pursue a variety of post-graduate empl oyment and education opportunities
- To offer our students varied opportunities to conduct original research
- To train our students to present results of independent research in printed and spoken formats
- To provide our students with the skills to retrieve information from electronic and printed sources.
