The Sloop Hero Society Inaugural Dinner
The Union League Club in New York City was the site of the inaugural dinner for the Sloop Hero Society March 4, 2008. Following welcome remarks by President William D. Adams, guests viewed the video The Colby College Sloop Hero Society: Devotion, Courage, and Hope, narrated by College Historian Earl Smith. Doris Kearns Goodwin ’64 talked about her recent book, Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, and acknowledged the critical role that Colby played in nurturing her love of history. The evening concluded with a musical performance by soprano Dori Smith ’08, accompanied by pianist Emily Wolf ’10. The Sloop Hero Society honors donors who have made lifetime cumulative gifts to Colby of $1 million or more.
