The Colby Outing Club is the largest club on campus with over 300
members annually and a mailing list of over 1,000 people. We are an
entirely student-run organization that exists solely to get people
outdoors. We run trips every weekend, maintain an extensive inventory of
outdoor equipment, and are always excited to help you plan your own
expedition. All Colby students, faculty, and staff are welcome to join
our trips and borrow gear at no cost, though you must be a member to
borrow equipment. All membership dues go right back to our gear fund,
which helps us buy the best equipment in the world. Our wide range of
gear includes a vast selection of telemark and cross-country skis,
boots, and poles, three/four-season tents and sleeping bags, whitewater
kayaks and associated paddling equipment, canoes, stoves, backpacks,
snowshoes, bike tools, double mountaineering boots, crampons, ice axes
and ice tools, and a bucket named Bob. We also operate a cabin on the shore of Great Pond of Belgrade lakes which is available for day use and overnight rental.
We hold weekly meetings during the normal school year on Sundays at 7:00 p.m. in the COC office.
Students interested in becoming officers should attend these planning
meetings. In the spring officers are elected for the coming year by the
present members of the Katahdin Council.
Our club office and equipment room are located in the basement of Mary Low (Directions).
We hold office hours Sunday through Thursday nights, from 7-8pm. Please
come to ask questions, borrow gear, rent the cabin, or pay dues. We
hold a weekly meeting every Sunday evening at 7pm to plan upcoming
trips, discuss club business, and tell outrageous tales of adventure.
Everyone is welcome to come.
