Vehicle Registration

All vehicles parked on the Colby Campus must have a parking permit.  Any vehicle parked on campus without a permit is subject to ticketing and or towing.

 

Student Parking

Students must part their vehicles in one of five designated parking lots on campus.

1. Foss Lot

   - adjacent to Mayflower Hill Drive and across from Woodman and Coburn Halls.

2. Hillside Lot

   - Four-tiered lot adjacent to Washington Street and west of Hillside Complex.

3. Roberts Lot* and PPD Lot*

   - PPD lot located between the steam-plant and office building.

4. Alfond Sr. Apartments

   - west of the apartments. Reserved for seniors only.

*Both the Roberts Lot and the PPD Lot contain parking areas designated for faculty, staff and students.

 

Commuter Parking

Commuter students may park in any student lot as well as the designated commuter area in the Foss and Roberts Lots. A special permit is required.

 

Evening and Weekend Parking

Students are permitted to park their vehicles in faculty/staff parking lots from 5p.m. to 2a.m. on weekdays and from 5p.m. Friday to 2a.m. on Sunday. See Winter Parking Ban for exceptions.

 

Parking During Breaks

Students who wish to leave their vehicles on campus during breaks, must contact Security prior to leaving campus. Security will inform students where to park during break. Vehicles left on campus without permissions will be towed at the owner's expense.

 

Winter Parking Ban

Because of the potential for severe weather conditions and snow accumulation, there is a winter parking ban in effect on campus from November 15 to April 1. This means overnight parking on any roadways or in faculty/staff lots is not allowed. Students must park in student designated lots at all times. This ban is in effect during all weeknights, weekends, holidays and vacations throughout the winter ban period. All violators will be towed at their own expense.

Loading and Unloading Vehicles

Students needing to load or unload their vehicles may park close to their residence hall for up to fifteen minutes, provided that the emergency flashers are on and the driver is available to move the vehicle in the event of an emergency.

 

Visitor Parking and Temporary Parking Permits

Visitors to Colby College must obtain a temporary permit from Security. Visitors are required to park in student lots and comply with all Colby parking regulations. Hosts are responsible for informing their guests of the parking regulations. Temporary permits are available to anyone who will have a vehicle on campus for a short period of time.

 

Loss of Parking Privileges

Students are allowed to accumulate a total of five tickets per academic year. The sixth ticket will result in the loss of parking privileges for the reminder of the school year. Revocation can be appealed in person to the Ticket Appeals Committee, but the loss of privilege is in effect until the Committee renders it's decision.

 

Campus Parking Regulations

1. All vehicles parked on the Colby College Campus must display a valid parking decal or temporary permit.
2. The registered owner of a vehicle is responsible for all parking violations.
3. The campus speed limit is 15 and 25 m.p.h. Speeding and/or reckless driving will lead to disciplinary sanctions up to and including loss of parking privileges.
4. All campus roadways are considered Fire Lanes and must be kept clear at all times.
5. Anyone parking a vehicle on campus shall cooperate by moving his or her vehicle when requested to do so by Security.
6. Driving off roadways on walkways, bicycle paths, lawns, or grounds is prohibited.
7. Parking on campus in a manner that would hamper or impede emergency vehicles or restrict the normal flow of traffic is prohibited.
8. Compliance with all parking and traffic signs is mandatory.

Towing

All illegally parked vehicles are subject to ticketing and/or towing.
