| Preparing
for Medical, Dental, Veterinary and Health Related Careers
Thinking about health professional school after Colby graduation? Colby's
Health Professions Preparation Committee exists to help you through the
process. We provide specialized advising, beginning in the first year and
continuing after graduation, for students who are preparing for careers
in the health professions.
Our major focus is preparation for, and application to, medical (allopathic
[M.D.], osteopathic [D.O.], and dental schools. This is the case because
of the specialized application processes for these fields, most notably
the use of a composite letter of recommendation written by our Committee
for each applicant. However, advising is also available for students interested
in health careers such as veterinary medicine, physical therapy, physician
assistant, nursing, podiatry, and chiropractic. These fields employ more
conventional graduate admissions procedures, thus the Committee plays a
smaller role in the application process.
Students interested in physical therapy, physician assistant, nursing, and
other health professions are urged to consult the appropriate guide (see
Useful
links) and the Health Professions Advisor for information on required
and recommended courses for graduate study in their field of interest.
