The Colby Arts and Humanities Center is proud of its rich history of partnering with students or student organizations to bring great events to campus. Examples of student-initiated events include visits and programs by:

  • Laverne Cox (of Orange is the New Black) as keynote speaker for Transgender November,
  • Baratunde Thurston (author of How to be Black, and former editor for digital of The Onion) as keynote speaker for the 2012-13 Annual Humanities Theme, “Comedy Seriously,”
  • Alison Klayman (director of Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry),
  • Salman Rushdie (author of a dozen novels and winner of the Man Booker Prize) as keynote speaker for the “Censorship Uncovered” theme.
