CER Continuing Education and Training:
CER offers members State-EMS Continuing Education Units (CEUs), which
count towards maintaining current state and National Registry certifications. CEU lectures and skill
sessions, taught by state-instructors from Delta Ambulance and/or Kennebec Valley Technical College,
are offered on campus each month on a variety of topics. Furthermore, all CER members may attend CEUs
in surrounding townships free of charge. Other training opportunities are available through CER/Colby,
including: mock calls, guest lecturers, and training simulations. Members are also always available to do practice
skills sessions, study reviews or discussions.
h
Community Education Opportunities:
Anyone who is interested in EMS is always welcome to contact
CER members with questions, etc. Furthermore, volunteers are always welcome to participate in
training sessions as patients or bystanders. CER also is arranging to have CPR classes taught on
campus, open to the community (hopefully, we'll get this set up soon!).

January EMT Class:
Every JanPlan term, Colby Health Services arranges for
Kennebec Valley Technical College in conjunction with Kennebec Valley EMS Council to teach an
EMT-Basic class on campus. It is an intensive - all day, five days a week - training in basic
techniques practiced in emergency medicine. From the Colby College course catalog, November, 2002:
"Course includes the basic 119-hour EMT program and requires eight to ten additional hours of clinical
practicum in a hospital emergency department or other approved facility. Upon successful completion
of the course, which includes examinations, individuals will be eligible to sit for the exams to be
certified as a State of Maine and/or National Registry Basic EMT." There is an additional lab and
book fee. No previous experience (including CPR) is needed.
