Assignments and Announcements

Thursday, May 15th

Wednesday, May 14th

Tuesday, May 13th

  • Your final exam will be on Friday, May 16th at 12:30 PM in Keyes 105. The format will be very similar to the midterms, but the final will be comprehensive, though favoring metabolism. It will be a two hour exam. For metabolism, you will be more responsible for glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, citric acid cycle, e transport, and ATP synthesis than you will be for lipid and amino acid metabolism, which will be covered with broader questions. Please check out the practice questions (posted below) and recent quizes for representative metabolism questions. I should be around this week for questions, but please also continue to use the message board. Cheers, Kevin.

Sunday, May 11th

Tuesday, May 6th

Wednesday, April 30th

Tuesday, April 29th

  • There is no quiz tomorrow. Your final quiz will be next Tuesday, May 6th, and will cover last week (payoff glycolysis and citric acid cycle) and this week's lecture and reading.

  • Reading for this week is Chapters 11 and 12.

  • Don't forget to check out the discussion schedule to see what's going on this Friday.

Wednesday, April 23rd

Monday, April 21st

  • Yes, you have a quiz tomorrow.

  • Reading for this week is the rest of Chapter 10.

  • Powerpoint slides for this week are now available.

Saturday, April 19th

  • The exam will be on Tuesday, April 29th, at 9:45 AM in Keyes 105. It will be a one hour exam.

Tuesday, April 15th

  • Your 2nd midterm exam will take place next Friday, April 25th, during the discussion session. This exam will cover material from lecture (from 3/11 through 4/17) reading (Chapters 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10:1-2). The exam will consist of approximately 20 multiple choice questions and 4-5 short answer questions. For a better idea of the format, check out the practice exam.

  • Powerpoint slides for this Thursday's lecture are now available.

Monday, April 14th

  • Tomorrow quiz will include membrane lipids and proteins, membrane transport, and sugar chemistry. While you'll need to recognize things like the reference carbon and the anomeric carbon, you will not need to differentiate sugar epimers, L/D isomers, or alpha/beta anomers (just the definitions of each). Last weeks assigned reading matches up well with quizable material.

  • The reading assignment for this week: P&C Chapter 9:1-2 and 10:2.

Monday, April 7th

  • Tomorrow quiz will include uncompetitive, mixed, and non-competetive enzyme inhibition as well as all the lipid stuff we talked about. It will only include section 1 of chapter 8 in the reading.

  • The reading assignment for this week: P&C Chapter 8:2-4 and 10:1.

Thursday, March 27th

  • There will be a quiz on Tuesday, which will cover lecture from the week before break and the reading in Chapter 7 (up until page 217 or so).

  • The reading assignement for this week: P&C Chapter 8, sections 1-3.

  • We have a very special guest for this Friday's discussion, Dr. Charles Jacobs, so please be extra prepared and ready to go!

Thursday, March 20th

  • Here are the answers to the first exam. I only posted the last two pages, because all the other answers were given on your returned exams.

Monday, March 17th

  • Tomorrow quiz will not be tomorrow, but rather during Thursday's lecture. It will cover the enzymology material through this past Thursday (but not tomorrow's lecture) and the reading from Chapter 6.

  • The reading assignment for this week: P&C Chapter 7, all sections.

  • Please check out this Friday's discussion material ASAP . . . so you can plan accordingly.

Tuesday, March 11th

Monday, March 10th

  • Tomorrow's quiz will not include fibrous proteins. Tomorrow quiz will not include enzymes (is what I meant to write!!)

  • The reading assignment for this week: P&C Chapter 6, all sections.

Sunday, March 9th

Saturday, March 8th

Wednesday, March 5th

  • Your first midterm examination will be next Friday, March 14th during the discussion session in Lovejoy 100 at 12 PM. Monday, March 3rd

  • Check out this sweet movie of oxygen binding to hemogoglobin, then these other, less-sweet, but still useful animations for hemogoglobin dynamics.

  • Tomorrow's quiz will include the reading through the description of the structural basis for cooperative behaviour in Hb in section 5 of Chapter 4.

  • The reading assignment for this week: P&C Chapter 4, Section 5 and Chapter 5.

Monday, February 25th

  • The reading assignment for this week: P&C Chapter 4, Sections 2-3.

  • I've fielded a few questions regarding the quiz via email. Don't forget about the BC362 message board to establish it as an FAQ page. I did address one of the questions I answered there for your reading pleasure.

  • Check out the PDB file of the ribosome.

  • For some additional practice on buffer problems, click here.

Tuesday, February 12th
