Research Opportunities for High School Students

Over the past several years, the Thamattoor lab has hosted a number of students from area high schools as summer research scholars. These opportunities are made possible thanks to funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Maine Research Internships for Teachers and Students (MERITS) program administered by the Maine Space Grant Consortium. The high school students typically spend a few weeks in lab working alongside Colby undergraduates and Das Thamattoor on original research projects in organic chemistry.

Last summer, Anna Heath (Messalonskee HS), Robert Swain (Cony HS), Patrick Meunier and Joseph Gould (Erskine Academy), and Zach Caruso (Watervlle HS) participated in the program. Anna, Robbie, Patrick, and Zach were funded fully by NSF while Joe was funded jointly by NSF and MERITS.

If you are a high school student interested in this program for the summer of 2012, please apply by April 30, 2012 using this form. You may also email Das Thamattoor for more information.
