Research Opportunities for High School Students
Over the past several years, the Thamattoor lab has hosted a number of students from area high schools as summer research scholars. These opportunities are made possible thanks to funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Maine Research Internships for Teachers and Students (MERITS) program administered by the Maine Space Grant Consortium. The high school students typically spend a few weeks in lab working alongside Colby undergraduates and Das Thamattoor on original research projects in organic chemistry.
This year Adam Childs (Erskine Academy), Cody Dennett (Winthrop High School), Emily Farrell (Winslow High School), and Margaret Williams (Skowhegan Area High School) participated in this program. Adam and Cody were jointly funded by NSF-MERITS, and Emily and Margaret were entirely supported by NSF. If you are a high school student interested in this program for the summer of 2010, please consult your guidance counselor and stay tuned for the program announcement in early spring. You may also email Das Thamattoor for more information.
