Research Opportunities for High School Students
Over the past several years, the Thamattoor lab has hosted a number of students from area high schools as summer research scholars. These opportunities are made possible thanks to funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Maine Research Internships for Teachers and Students (MERITS) program administered by the Maine Space Grant Consortium. The high school students typically spend a few weeks in lab working alongside Colby undergraduates and Das Thamattoor on original research projects in organic chemistry.
Last summer, Dana Vigue (Lawrence HS), Morgan Nelson (Cony HS), Ryley Thompson (Erskine Academy), Sarah Finnemore (Skowhegan Area HS), and Ryan Tozier (Watervlle HS) participated in the program. Morgan, Sarah, Ryley, and Ryan were funded fully by NSF while Dana was funded jointly by NSF and MERITS.
If you are a high school student interested in this program for the summer of 2013, please download and complete this application form. The application deadline is Monday, April 29, 2013. You may also email Das Thamattoor for more information.
