All prelab assignments are due at the beginning of the discussion period on the day you are scheduled to begin a new experiment. The prelab must be completed before you may begin your lab work. All experiments must be completed to obtain your lab grade. Experiments that are listed for weeks 9 through 12 will run concurrently. Please consult the lab assignment sheet on the bulletin board in room 406 for the date that you are to do each experiment. Each week you will be responsible for submitting the appropriate prelab assignment. For the LeChatelier's Principle, Enthalpy of Formation, Rate of Reaction, the Colorimetric Determination of Aspirin, and the Ion Chromatography experiments, you will work in pairs. All of the safety practices and guidelines for notebooks that were in effect last semester will apply again for this course. Remember that you must wear safety goggles at all times while in the laboratory. If you must do extra work or attend the lab on a day other than your normally scheduled day, contact the lab instructor for that section several days in advance. Work in an unassigned lab section is at the discretion of the lab instructor and is not encouraged. With regard to recording data, use a bound notebook filled with graph paper and write in ink. If you have not taken Chemistry 141 at Colby or are at all uncertain about safety procedures or notebook organization, please talk with your instructor. The emphasis this semester is on some common laboratory techniques. These experiments should teach you some important skills that will be useful in any area of science that you choose to follow.
