D. Whitney King Ph.D.
D. Whitney King, Ph.D. Dr. King received his B.S. in Chemistry from St. Lawrence University and a Ph.D. in Chemical Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island. He serves the department as an analytical/environmental chemist and teaches General Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, and Analytical Chemistry. King is also actively involved in development of instruments for ultra trace analysis of Fe, Cu, Cr, Mn, H2O2, and O2- in the environment. Over twenty of these instruments are used by other investigators all over the world. Prof. King also serves as the Chemistry Department Chair and
Director of Colby's Partnership for Science Education. The partnership works with area schools to improve K-12 science programs.

Dr. Jennifer Shosa received her B.S. in Geoscience from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, her M.S. in Hydro Geology from Syracuse University, and her Ph.D. in Heohydrology from Cornell University. She joined the faculty of Colby College as a Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor in 2000 and teaches Environmental Geology, Groundwater Hydrology, Structural Geology, and Geochemistry. She is a member of the advisory boards of the Environmental Studies program and Science, Technology, and Society Program. Her current research projects include investigating the hydrogeology of the Belgrade Lakes Watershed and theoretical and experimental studies of geologic systems at high temperature and pressure.

Robert A. Gastaldo Ph.D

Robert A. Gastaldo, Ph.D. Dr. Gastaldo joined the college as the inaugural Whipple-Coddington Professor of Geology and Department Chair in 1999. This year, he will be teaching Sedimentation and Stratigraphy in the fall semester, and both Deciphering Earth History and the Record of Life on Earth (Paleontology) in the spring. Gastaldo came to Colby with an international reputation in paleobotany and taphonomy. He has just stepped down from a term as co-editor of the international journal, Palaios. Dr. Gastaldo is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and was previously Alumni Professor of Geology at Auburn University in Alabama.
