O=CHCH2+ can result from from bond dissociation of a corresponding aldehyde radical cation:
R-CH2-CH2-CH=O+• -> R-CH2• + +CH2CH=O
or hydride abstraction from acetaldehyde, CH3CH=O, or from hydride abstraction from ethylene oxide: H2C/O\CH2.

O=CHCH2+ rearranges to give:
cyclic C2H3O+ cation
