Cinema Studies

Few art forms have had a greater impact on modern culture than cinema. Delve into the historical and aesthetic dimensions of films to better understand the evolution of society within cultural, technological, national, and transnational contexts.

The minor in cinema studies focuses on the history, theory, and culture of film and related media. Choose among courses in international cinema, documentary film, Japanese animation, Italian comedy, digital media, and photography. Through the lenses of various disciplines—American studies, art history, women’s studies, English, the sciences—students make connections between the cultural themes and the societal climate of the period.
