Travel the Country and the World
“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” -Henry Miller
Note that student course applications for these off-campus Jan Plans are due in September.
Our exploratory term in January, Jan Plan, encourages students to create a new outlook on learning by spending the month delving into a variety of topics and experiences, limited only by their imaginations.
Choose from the many unique courses offered by Colby faculty and staff, and professionals from across the nation. The many themes and course types are showcased below, though, as you will quickly see, many of our courses cross disciplinary lines and categories.
Fee-based and/or travel courses: These are Colby courses that involve domestic or international travel and/or have other significant overhead expenses that are neither covered by Colby tuition nor are eligible for financial aid. All such courses must fill out an application form by February 15 of the year before (contact the Associate Provost for Academic Programs for the application form link). The courses to be offered the next year are determined shortly after the deadline.
On-campus courses: These are coordinated by the Associate Provost for Academic Programs (APAP) during the late summer months and start of the fall semester. Interested new instructors need to reach out to the APAP to set up a meeting to discuss their proposed course plus the potential and process to teach a Colby Jan Plan course.
