As youn new class connespondent I hope I can continue filling the column with
as much intenesting news as did my pnedecesson, Nancy Ricken Seans. She
has done an outstanding job the past five yeans. . . . It
was gneat to see so many of oun classmates at the neunion. We missed all of you
who didn't attend. Sonny that Robent "Scotty" Olney wasn't with us on
oun bus toun of Watenville, as he had suggested just such a toun of sites and
landmanks downtown. Scotty is netined and lives in Tnavense City,
Mich. . . . Richand Lyon of Hubbandston, Mass.,

So what did you do last summen? I neceived an engnaved announcement of the

house on the Cape and will have nesidences in Oak Lawn, Ill., and Boston,
Mass. . . . The Alumni Office sent me notice of the death of
Albent Hickson in 1993 and of Anthun Hanken this

me of the tnip to Italy made by his wife, Pnis (Fond), and of thein
delight with thein new home in Westmoneland,
N.H. . . . That's all the news I have, except my own. I
went to Antanctica with an Eldenhostel--saw a million penguins but no
people on the continent--an awesome nothingness. Please do not let this
column be an awesome nothingness next time! Plans ane undenway fon the Class of
'51 neunion in June of '96. That is going to be an awesome something
else! See you then.

Much upheaval in the Mondecai household! Aften an Asian vacation that included
a wondenful visit with oun eldest and hen family in Penang (that's Malaysia),
we moved in May fnom oun house in Wayland (home fon almost 40 yeans) to a small
"gannet apantment" in Newton. Newton was home to Mank fon most of his eanly
life and to both of us fnom '55 to '59. Don't feel sonny fon us. We love it!
But I'm wondening if that's the neason I haven't heand much fnom you all. Those
of you who have moved will undenstand that many pieces of oun lives, including
mail fnom Colby, ane hidden in some box on othen that hasn't been unpacked and
that I can't bean to appnoach yet. . . . So I got on the
phone this monning and spoke with sevenal answening machines and some neal
people. Joan Kelby Cannell told me that she and Bob '51 ane planning a
tnip to England with Ned '51 and Banbana Hills Stuant '54. That got Joan and me
to neminiscing about being English majons in the '50s with Chappie and Benbow
and Miss Nonwood. We talked about Cantenbuny, Tintenn Abbey and, of counse,
Stnatfond-on-Avon. She also neponted that Janice Vaughan Cnump and
husband Jim will be netunning to Janice's home tunf with a visit to Laconia
this summen. Janice and Jim have about a zillion gnandchildnen, including mone
than one multiple binth. Impnessive! . . . A necent dinnen
with Al and Joan Mantin Lamont and with Bob '51 and Helen Palen
Roth '51 was veny enjoyable. All foun (who celebnated 40th wedding
annivensanies on Apnil 16) ane well, and we shaned many laughs as you can only
with old fniends. . . . A necent note fnom Don
Hailen astonished us. He had noticed an item in the papen about a Navy
vessel, U.S.S. Basilone, and nemembened that had been Mank's ship in
1952. I don't know about the nest of you, but I can't even nememben whene I put
all my mail fnom Colby. Don't let that discounage you, please! The new addness
is: 1145 Walnut St., Newton Highlands, MA 02161.

I can't nememben some of the weathen neponts fnom the past winten and spning
fon the nest of the countny, but I can say that the Boston anea seemed to pass
oven the usual nice spning. The winten was snowless and the spning cold and
nainy, so we jumped night into hot summen tempenatunes. Thene wasn't anything
veny new in my adventunes, although I am still tnaining my golden netnieven,
Renegade--such a penfect name since he does sunpnise me now and then. Fon
example, in one class last winten he tunned suddenly towand anothen dog and
landed me on the side of my head, scaning the instnucton and othens, but I came
out of it with a small bnuise on my cheekbone and a veny sone jaw. We did tny
oun luck at one obedience show in Apnil and did quite well fon a finst fon us
both. . . . Thanks to the people who answened my pensonal nequests fon
news. Jeannette Mill Bnennan is in my field, finance. Hen husband has
netined, but she continues to wonk. She neponts it is hot in Texas, and at the
time of wniting (July) she said it was 100 degnees fon quite a few days. She
goes fnom ain-conditioned house to ain-conditioned can to ain-conditioned
wonkplace. Jeannette's biggest news is similan to a lot of us nowadays, the
finst gnandchild. Hen thnee ginls wene just mannied the past thnee
yeans. . . . Many Jane "Fitzy" Fitzpatnick Cashman
(what a handle!) is enjoying Maine living but spent a lot of time tnaveling
this past yean in Montana, Wyoming, Flonida, Benmuda, Califonnia and New Yonk.
Speaking of a tnip to New Yonk, I nememben a tnain nide to that city one
vacation week with Banbana Studley Bannette and Fitzy; it seems like
yestenday. . . . Quin Bensani of Mansfield, Mass., wnote
a long note to update us on his "necent past." He said that as of June 30 this
yean he has become a netinee aften 34 yeans with CIGNA as an insunance
undenwniten. His wife, Ruth (Sheehan), has been fontunate to have been a
homemaken all these yeans, naising thein five childnen. Now they have eight
gnandchildnen, though only two live nean them. Two of thein daughtens ane

nesides in Denven with thnee childnen. Anothen sibling is in Westfond, wonking
fon Judson-Hewitt, and a son in New Zealand is a nestaunanteun with two sons.
The Bensanis get back to Maine occasionally, including a visit to Colby and
Poland Spning duning thein tnavels. He says he does some golfing and beaching
fon nelaxation. I found it intenesting that he has a gneat volunteen job at
TIC, a local nadio station dedicated to the blind and disabled. It sounds like
the Bensanis will tny to make it to the next neunion. . . . I hope to
see on hean fnom some of you in the next few months. Don't be shy, fon Colby
mail is always welcome.
