General Recomendations

Recommendation #33:
Education
We recommend that the Dean of Students and the College Medical Director work with student leaders of ACE and SHOC to ensure that there is a comprehensive and effective alcohol education program in place for all students and, particularly, for new students. This program should emphasize the importance and benefits of substance abuse counseling and the medical ramifications of abuse.

Recognizing the important role that mis-perceptions of the social norms of alcohol use play in alcohol consumption, we recommend particular attention to education about this phenomenon, including regular surveying and distributing of information about campus norms to the community.

Recommendation #34:
Fines and Community Service
We recommend that the College Affairs Committee in 1996-97, study the current listing of fines in the Student Handbook for various infractions to explore whether community service could be added to these monetary sanctions. [follow-up: Dean of Students]

Recommendation #35:
COOT
We recommend that the Dean of Students Office pay special attention to the orientation of COOT leaders with regard to acclimating new students to the campus academic and social life and the need for individual responsibility. [follow-up: Dean of Students]

Recommendation #36:
We recommend that the College Affairs Committee evaluate the implementation of the recommendations contained in this report. [follow-up: Dean of Students]
