95 It was great to see everyone at our fifth-year reunion (see some pictures from Reunion Weekend at www.raffetto.net/). Yuhgo Yamaguchi will be taking over these quarterly columns from now on, so keep that news coming to Yuhgo! Also, Carrie Farber and Alyssa Falwell Ross are the new class vice presidents; Stephanie Bunker and Bryan Raffetto will serve as co-presidents. . . . Maureen Finn and Eric Schwartz '96 were married over Memorial Day weekend in Boston. Maureen's bridesmaids were Julie Rentz, Susan Clerke and Alyssa Falwell Ross. Also in attendance were J.D. Ngo, Eric Gordon '96 and Allan Ingraham '96. . . . On July 9, Kristen Hanssen and Ned Goodell '92 were married in Lexington, Mass. Attendees included Julie Rentz, Kathryn Cosgrove, Ben Damon, Alyssa Falwell Ross, Ken Dupuis '94, Pat Sykes '96 and Adam Zois '94. . . . Mark Griffin was married earlier this year in San Francisco to Emily Nagle. They moved this past summer to Philadelphia, where he will attend the Wharton M.B.A. program. . . . Jen "Hank" Ancker sails competitively in the Northeast on a J-120 called Dire Wolf. She's been living in N.Y.C. for the past four years working at a hedge fund as an analyst. She's also starting a few new projects with a silver jewelry designer and her own photography and writingsoon to come to fruition on www.silver sparkle.com. . . . Beth Timm is engaged to Ted Preston (Brown '92). . . . Erika Lichter received her master's of psychology at the University of Arizona and is pursuing a Ph.D. in public health at Harvard. . . . Steph Hutchison is getting her master's at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. . . . Fred and Heather Johnson Webster are still in Seattle, where she's an office manager for EES Consulting and Fred is a sales rep for Carnrick Labs. She reports that they completed the Maui Marathon in March and got together with Rachael DeCosta, Tachou Dubuisson, Jen Larsen Daileanes '93 and Karyn Rimas Patry '93 for the Fourth of July weekend in Marblehead, Mass. Tachou left her job with Access International to give modeling full time a try. Rachael is working in Washington, D.C., at the Calvert Group. . . . Mike Kaplan and Kim Schock '96 are engaged, living in Richmond, Va., and planning a June 2001 wedding in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. Kim is in medical school and Mike is working towards an M.A. in academic administration. . . . Brendan Cavanaugh graduated from Rush Medical School in Chicago and is doing his residency at Dartmouth. . . . Meredith DiMenna is living in San Francisco, plans to move back to N.Y.C. and has released a CD that you can buy through burn_one.com. . . . Stephanie Pennix graduated from UC-Davis law school and is joining a law firm in San Francisco. She's been in touch with Stephanie Trepper, who is engaged. . . . Lindsay Bennigson was engaged to Chris Jernigan and planned a summer 2000 wedding in Maine. They'll move to Burlington, Vt., in the fall as she starts her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Vermont. . . . Aimee Flores Wheaton and husband Cal '92 are living in Lutherville, Md. She finished medical school last year at Penn State and is starting her second year of internal medicine residency. Last year they visited Egypt and Italy, and this summer they went on a cruise of the Galapagos Islands and hiked the Machu Picchu trail in Peru. . . . Chris Haigh is the assistant director for a summer enrichment program for high school kids called Exploration. She has moved in with her partner, Alison Chase (Amherst '94), and her dog, Bailey, in Jamaica Plain, Mass. . . . Mei Chau is starting up a New Hampshire-based graphic design company, Scribble Graphics. If anyone has any graphic design needs, please get in touch (www.scribble graphics.com). . . . Abe Rogers lives in Burlington, Vt., and races on the National Triathlon Team. In May he competed at the U.S. Olympic Triathlon Trials in Dallas, Texas, but missed making the Olympic Team. He competed in World Cup races in Canada in July and the U.S. Pro Nationals in Chicago in August. Abe also coaches youth swimming and Special Olympic athletes at the YMCA in Burlington. . . . Faisel Zaman is a surgical resident in Philadelphia. . . . Sarah (Whitely '94) and Justin D'Ercole have moved to the Big Apple, where Justin will be a second-year analyst at Lehman Brothers. Rachel Herf '94 and Max Lamson got back from their honeymoon in time to see Justin and Sarah off to N.Y.C. . . . Karen Andreas is living in Essex and working at The School for Field Studies in Beverly, Mass. She's also a kayak guide with Essex River Basin Adventures. She just finished the American Lung Association Bike Trek from Sunday River to the Sea (175 miles) with three Colby grads and saw two others on the ride. . . . Doug Macauley received his M.B.A. from Tuck this past June. He is living in Boston and working at Cambridge Associates. . . . I am living in Cambridge, working at Mainspring and cooking part time in Boston. I ran the Cape Cod Marathon last fall and will officiate ice hockey games again this winter. . . . 96 Caitlin Johnson is living and working as a writer and on-line journalist in metro D.C., not far from Colleen Diver '95, and recently took a mini road trip with Colleen and Katie McGovern '97. She was accepted as a contributor in fiction to this year's Bread Loaf Writer's Conference in Vermont. . . . Rebecca Mawn is currently living in Medford, Mass., and is finishing up her first year of teaching in Wenham, Mass., which is part of the Hamilton-Wenham school district. She still loves teaching second grade but also was excited about a summer vacation and having time to do some traveling. . . . Eric Schwartz and Maureen Finn '95 were married in Boston on May 28, 2000. Colby alumnae in the bridal party were Julie Rentz '95, Alyssa Falwell Ross '95 and Susan Clerke '95. Other Colby alums in attendance were Allan Ingraham, Jenifer Ngo '95, Eric Gordon and Katie Quackenbush '99. . . . Brad Smith, Charles "Chuck" Bowen, Betsy Low, Dan Rheaume, Cathy Neuger '97, Gregg LeBlanc and Jeffrey Sklarz attended the wedding of Ryan "The Chief" Sullivan to Lana Wolfson in West Hartford, Conn. A good time was had by all. Ryan is entering his fourth year of medical school at UConn. Jeff is a lawyer at a prestigious Connecticut law firm and was to be married in August. Gregg is an associate at Price, Waterhouse-Coopers in New York and says that he loves living in Manhattan and sees Jesse Carlson '98 regularly. Gregg also reports that Alex Talbot is married and running a restaurant. Brad recently finished his master's in education administration at the University of Virginia and was moving back to Mayflower Hill to take a position in the Development Office at Colby. . . . Stephanie Paul traveled for three weeks in India and Nepal this spring, half of the time hiking and mountain biking, the other half working with a small group of Georgetown M.B.A. students working with Indian businesses. In addition, she was to graduate from the Georgetown M.B.A. program this spring and take a job with the structured finance group at Spaulding & Slye Colliers in Washington, D.C. . . . Ruth Bristol graduated from Tulane med school in May and was about to start her residency in neurosurgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Ariz. She recently visited Carrie Califano, who is in the JAGcorps and stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. Ruth also reports that this past March Cristina Pacheco got married (to Bill Chester) in Cincinnati, Ohio, and also graduated from med school there this May. Cristina is doing a year of internal medicine in Cincinnati. At Cristina's wedding Ruth saw Melissa Taylor, Cate Kneece and Chris Wnek and Deirdre Foley. . . . Daniel Dente is working in the international marketing department of the OTTO Mailorder Group in Hamburg, Germany, consulting subsidiaries in the U.K. and Northern Europe. Daniel recently met up with Claudia Wehmeier in London and toured some bars and restaurants. . . . Adam Muller completed a master's in economics at Tufts University and currently is working as an associate at Charles River Associates in downtown Boston. He is living in Somerville. . . . After working in economic consulting for four years Azeen Chamarbagwala is going back to graduate school to do a master's in information management and systems at the University of California-Berkeley. . . . Chris Whitehead moved to Philadelphia in April to take a job with Aronson Partners, a hedge fund. He proposed to Kelly Oakes in Italy last summer and is getting married in October. . . . Eben Dorros is in music school in N.Y.C. and is currently writing the score for a movie being filmed in Chicago. . . . Colin Harrington was named vice president of energy investment banking for the FBR & Co. in Washington, D.C. . . . Gerry Perez is teaching school and coaching at the Horace Mann School in N.Y.C. . . . Deirdre Foley is living in Milford, Mass., and planned to start grad school this fall at WPI in biomedical engineering. She sees Julie Erickson and John Bond '94 regularly. . . . Ed Bourque recently received an M.A. from Brandeis University in sustainable international development. As of June he was looking for work in environmental policy/research in the area of integrated conservation and development. Like many people his age, he is starting up a dot combigbowlbigspoon.coma bachelor pad cookbook on line. Unlike other dot coms, he predicts it will not make any money. . . . Erik Gustavson spent most of 1999 in Hong Kong with U.S. Interactive, building an on-line grocery store. After Hong Kong, he returned to Los Angeles, where he is now housemates with Rob Sutter. After quitting U.S. Interactive recently, Erik planned on taking a four-week backpacking and canoeing trip in Canada with Michelle Torrens. At the end of their trip they were planning on meeting up with Eric Loth, Sarah Langan, Dori Morrison, Rob Sutter, Rob Gold, Lori Kalisz, Aran Ryan and Mike Yunes '95 in Bar Harbor. After their mini Colby reunion in Maine, Erik is returning to L.A. to work at Bandini Ventures, a technical consulting company that he co-founded. . . . Kylie (Jessica) Taphorn passed the California bar last fall and is now working at a small firm in Sacramento doing dependency/juvenile law. Kylie reports that Linnea Basu is working for Liberty Mutual in Boston, Nozomi Kishimoto is still in Tokyo and just got engaged, and Carey Page is working for Amazon.com and living in Seattle. . . . Joy Christoferson is living in New Haven, Conn., with John Daly. They are engaged and planning a June wedding in 2001. Both Joy and John are attending master's programs at Yale University, John in environmental studies and Joy in nursing, with a specialty as family nurse practitioner. They will both graduate in one year.

97 What's up? Congrats, congrats, congrats. (We've started a tradition here.) Here they go: Melissa O'Donnell married C. Brooks McPhail in Lanesville, Mass., and Kara Marchant Hooper also tied the knot in Texas. Jen Atwood was the maid of honor while Ellie Peters, Austen Briggs, Tanya Semels and J.J. Eklund were bridesmaids. . . . David Palmieri is engaged to Denise Koenig, and Sarah Christie has a June '01 wedding planned to John Carolan '95. Sarah is in the Boston University School of Public Health and runs into Greg Merriman, Beth Timm '95 and Jill Kooyoomjian '95. . . . Mandy Ball married Peter Caruso II '93 this June in Portsmouth, N.H. . . . Betsy Eisen is engaged. . . . Gregg Forger is engaged to Danielle Rizzo '96. . . . Karen Blaisdell was engaged on New Year's, with a wedding set for July '01; Chris Downing will be her maid of honor. Karen also left the American Red Cross this year to become a high school Spanish teacher. . . . Wendy Morris continues to work in PR as an account executive at Edelman Public Relations. She writes that Jennifer O'Neill has started a journalism program at Northwestern University. . . . Mary Rosenfeld graduated from Boston University Law School and will work as a public defender in Boston. . . . Drea Barbalunga remains in D.C. as a director for the International Trade Association. She's been doing a fair amount of traveling and spent time in Asia and South Africa. During the World Bank/IMF protests/riots in D.C., she saw a Colby T-shirt in the melee (it happened outside her office). She was unable to identify the person, however, because he or she was wearing a gas mask. Nice, Drea. "Good to see that Colby activism hasn't died." . . . Ashley Ring is living it up in Colorado, teaching at the Colorado Academy. She took some of her students to Wimbledon and played in some tournaments; and, of course, they checked out matches on Center Court. . . . It took Andrew Black flying in from San Fran, Patrick McBride driving up from Jersey and me making the trek from Kentucky, but it was worth it to see David McLaughlin marry Jenna DeSimone '98 in Ipswich in late June. Kent Robertson, who recently relocated to San Jose, and Chad Higgins were in attendance as were Lucas Penney, Andrew Pease, Tony Rosenfeld, Becky Briber, Kurt Gray, Jerrod DeShaw and John Hebert. Lots of other Colby hoops guys and Colby soccer women were there to share the wonderful weekend. . . . Hillary Ross finished her stint teaching English in Buenos Aires with Sarah Olsten and Darrin Ylisto and is moving to Spain in November. She plans on traveling through Southeast Asia as well. She'll be back in the States in October to attend Kate Cousins's wedding and plans to catch up with alums in Boston, New York and D.C. . . . Mika Hadani spent the summer on the road with the N.Y.C. Ballet. The tour stopped in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Edinburgh, Scotland, and all over Japan. After the tour, she planned on climbing Mt. Fuji and then going to Honolulu for some rest and relaxation. . . . Hyun Jung deferred a year from the JFK School of Government at Harvard. He will be working for another year for State Street Capital Markets in Boston before starting school in September '01. . . . Chris Sullivan has taken a new position at Bishop Fenwick in Peabody, Mass., as the director of development. He reports that he's enjoying the field of advancement in the nonprofit sector. . . . Steve Papagiotas starts a public health program this fall at Emory University in Georgia. . . . Kristen Wilson '98 is moving to the Hudson River Valley to work as an environmental educator this fall. She finished a stint as a recruitment specialist for the Northwest Service Academy, an AmeriCorps program in Portland, Ore., that focused on environmental and educational service. She's looking forward to being on the East Coast again. . . . Nicole LaBrecque Gil finished her third year at the Sewickley Academy outside Pittsburgh. Her husband will be continuing his degree in aviation at Purdue, so the couple is moving to Indianapolis. She'll teach at the Sycamore School, a K-8 private school for gifted children. Nicole started her master's in psychology this spring but decided to focus on Spanish instead. Before making their move to the Midwest, they spent the summer in Rhode Island and touring the Spanish coast from Alicante to Barcelona. . . . David Bruinooge now lives in Brooklyn and is in the process of finding a gig with a film company. . . . Lauren Graham returned to Maine. She's living in Portland and working at an environmental consulting firm in Yarmouth. On her first day of work she ran into Karen Hoppe, who teaches at a school in Yarmouth. . . . C.J. Polcari is attending the Loyola University-Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago. . . . Amanda Magary graduated from Columbia School of Social Work with a master's in science and moved out to San Francisco (okay, which Colby contingent is bigger nowBoston or San Fran?). Michelle Lin will join her soon. . . . Tony Rosenfeld is in Italy (Tuscany) apprenticing with one of the world's premier chefs, learning a ton and improving his Italian. He still writes for The Boston Globe, contributing pieces while on the road. . . . Carole Reid is moving to Hong Kong with her fiancé after leaving her position at Discovery Communications in New York. . . . Jonathan Levin completed his first year of law school at Suffolk in Boston and moved to Readville (near Blue Hills). . . . Sean Handler graduated from Temple law school. . . . 99 It was a delight to run into Jamie Yourdon and Reid Farrington last night. Reid is living in Brooklyn with Will Guthrie. Reid loves his job as a freelance set designer for off-Off Broadway shows and has been invited to join a theater companyhe's doing exactly what he's most passionate about. Jamie is at the University of Arizona getting his M.F.A. in creative writing and teaching first-year English classes (equivalent to Colby's EN 115). Jamie told me all about his exciting new venture as an editor and writer for a weekly Web 'zine called Either/Or. Check it out at www.either-or.net. He's always looking for contributorsone of whom is Nate Jue, a weekly contributor/writer. Nate teaches 10th graders in New Hampshire, but he anticipates moving sometime soon. . . . Anna Bridges is in Boston doing research on vaccine development at Mass General Hospital and building her portfolio in preparation for graduate school in music composition. . . . Josh DeScherer is working on his master's at Tufts University in music composition. . . . Dave Fasteson is also furthering his educationat Brown Universitywhere this June he began working towards an M.A.T. in biology. . . . Alex Quigley is a member of Teach for America in the Mississippi Delta, teaching second graders. He loves his work, and he spent the summer as a full-time graduate student at Ole Miss in the master's in elementary education program. Alex was recently accepted to the Mississippi Teacher Fellowship Program! He sends a shout out to Crystal Brakke, who teaches eighth grade English with Teach for America in Henderson, N.C. Lyle Bradley visited Alex on his cross-country road trip. Lyle also recently finished a furniture design class in Camden, Maine. . . . Dave Wilkens loves being a research technician at Aaron Diamon AIDS Research Center, but he took a six-week leave of absence this summer to teach pre-calculus at Northfield Mount Hermon School. . . . In the fall Derek Kensinger took off for El Salvador with the Peace Corps. Katherine Golfinopoulos is also just beginning an adventure with the Peace Corps. . . . Diego Muilenburg spent this summer in St. Johns with Tracy Freuder '00. . . . Justin Harvey and Heather Fine both just took the LSAT, and Heather reports that it was the hardest test she's ever taken. . . . Karena Bullock just got a promotion at Forbes and is working in special events now. . . . Sean Foley is living in Portland, Maine, and pursuing his acting. As I understand it, Sean is part of a two-man show that performs Shakespeare in schools all over the place. He loves it! . . . Kelly Williams's apartment is on the beach in Tel Aviv, and she works for a high-tech company called BMC Software. . . . Sarah Hewins lives in Boston and works at SCORE! Also in the Boston area are Rachel Reider, who works at an advertising agency, and Alison Rainey, who is a consultant at CSC Consulting. . . . Michelle Foster just completed her first year of grad school at Lesley College, got her teacher's certification and teaches at a private school in Manchester. . . . Alexis Azar finished up an internship at the Smithsonian Museum in D.C., where she lives. . . . Lauren Rothman works as a trend analyst in N.Y.C. at Faith Popcorn's Brain Reserve, a trend forecasting firm. . . . This summer, Jason Gerbsman began traveling and studying in Israel. . . . Ryan Aldrich has been a ski instructor out west all winter while getting his teaching certification. In June, Ryan traveled around Wyoming and Montana to fly fish and hike with Matt Smith '00, and on July 1 he began an admission position at the Kent School in Connecticut. Ryan says he is entirely happy. I can only wish for that same kind of happiness for all of you. Be in touch.
