Posse Profiles: Meet the Posse Scholars

These are the members of Colby Posse 1 and Posse 2.
Their backgrounds, interests and achievements are
as varied as their home--New York City.

Victoria Caicedo '07

Victoria Eugenia Caicedo '07 is from Queens, N.Y. and attended Benjamin N. Cardoza High School. She loves music, spirituality, salsa, and travel.At Colby, she hopes to engage in Latin American Studies and Education & Human Development. She is also part of Students Organized for Black and Hispanic Unity (SOBHU), Photography Club, Colby Cares About Kids, and EVE, a women's performance group.

Jia Chen '06

Jia Chen '06 is from New York City. She was born in China and came to the U.S. in 1997. She graduated from Manhattan International High School, and at Colby is majoring in economics, with a major in Japanese at Colby. She also speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and Fujianese. She plays guitar and piano, is a potter and is president of the Colby Taichi Club.

Cat Downing '06

Cat Downing '06 was raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. and graduated from the High School of Art and Design. She hopes to major in art and minor in religious studies at Colby and is involved in the Skateboarding Club and the Pottery Club on campus.

Chelsea Downs '06

Chelsea Elizabeth Downs '06 is a graduate of Hunter College High School and is from New York City. She is interested in newspaper, basketball, and community service. She is involved in WMHB, the campus radio station, Student-Faculty Allies, the Bridge, SOAR (Students Organized Against Racism), and SOBHU. After Colby, she'd like to go into journalism.

Zen Glasser '06

Zen Glasser '06 is a head resident at Colby. She is an active member of Hillel and student coordinator for ALANA admissions. She graduated from Edward R. Murrow High School and is from Brooklyn, N.Y.

 

Claire Jimenez '06 is from Staten Island, N.Y. and attended Staten Island Technical High School. She is a spoken-word (a form of spoken poetry) artist and has worked as a peer mentor and a spoken- word instructor. She is interested in the role-spoken word might play as an activist tool for New York City youth.

Danny Lin '07

Danny Lin '07 hails from Manhattan where he attended Manhattan Comprehensive Night & Day High School. He is interested in science, music, sports, and volunteering.  At Colby, he hopes to become involved with the Colby Republicans and continue his volunteer work.

Xue Zhi (Susie) Liu '07

Xue Zhi (Susie) Liu '07 is from New York City and graduated from Manhattan International High School. She loves music, dance, photography, and ceramics.

Shapel Mallard '06

Shapel Mallard '06 grew up in Brooklyn. He's a double major at Colby, in government and philosophy, and says he probably declare a creative writing minor. He hosts a weekly poetry slam, called "poets rest at dawn. His goals are to be published (either poetry or academic treatise or both) and have his doctorate in philosophy before he is 30.

Jeronimo Maradiaga '07

Jeronimo Maradiaga '07 takes part in SOBHU and the men's crew team at Colby and plans to study pre-med. At John F. Kennedy High School he was president of the National Honor Society and the Red Cross Club, and a member of the Spanish Honor Society and the track team.

Antonio Mendez '06

Antonio Mendez '06, a Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis High School graduate, is from New York City. He enjoys chess, tae-kwon-do, and politics, and is an American Studies major with a minor in theater & dance at Colby.

Jarius Steed '06

Jairus Steed '06 was born and raised in New York City and graduated from LaGuardia High School of Music and Art. He studied violin for 12 years at the Harlem School for the Arts, School for Strings, and the Juilliard School. At Colby he will continue his private study as well as play in a string quartet.

Fidel Tavarez '07

Fidel Tavarez '07 joins us from Brooklyn, NY and is a graduate of El Puente High School. He enjoys drumming and basketball.  At Colby, he is involved in SOBHU and hopes to major in anthropology.

Rebecca Travis '07

Rebecca Travis '07 is a graduate of the Institute for Collaborative Education and is from Brooklyn, NY. Throughout high school she was an active participant in Global Kids and Outward Bound. At Colby, she is interested in international studies and environmental biology. She's an avid Mets fan.

Montana Miguelina Vasquez '07

Montana Miguelina Vasquez '07 was active in dance, tutoring, and volunteerism at Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics in her hometown, New York, NY. Here at Colby, she enjoys SOBHU and women's crew team and hopes to double-major in English and biology.

John Davidson White '07

John Davidson White '07 enjoys science fiction novels, video games and music. He is from Bronx, N.Y. and was involved in the newspaper, drama club, and math club at Manhattan Village Academy.

George A. Williams '06

George A. Williams '06 is from Bronx, N.Y. At Alfred E. Smith High School he was president of the student government and was on the track and wrestling teams. At Colby he is the support coordinator for SOBHU, a leader of the South End Coalition, and a COOT leader.

Ray Wilson '07

Roy Wilson '07, a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, is from Bronx, NY. He is interested in math, science, and social theory. At Colby, he's involved in track and field, gospel choir, SOBHU, and biking.

Victoria Yuan '07

Victoria Yuan '07 enjoys reading, volunteering, and pottery. She hopes to major in International Studies at Colby. Her leadership roles include involvement in a model United Nations and the American Red Cross. Victoria is from Queens, N.Y. and graduated from Townsend Harris High School.
