Nothing to report from any members of the class this quarter. So, guess what! You'll be receiving a questionnaire from the College before long, which makes it really easy for you to get information into my hands. I'll take it from there! . . . I'm writing this in early December, with temperatures here in suburban Chicago a mild 50 or so. It does make for perfect holiday shopping weather, however--beautiful lights in the city for atmosphere and sweater weather for shopping ease! As we live the last few days of 2001, a year that has changed us all in many ways, my wish to you is for health, safety and loving relationships in a wiser new year. May we all count and cherish the blessings it has been far too easy to assume are our birthright while we are ever mindful of those in pain and need. It's a tough world out there. Let's pledge to make it a little less tough, however and whenever we can.

Hello, classmates! Congratulations are in order on the recent announcement that Duncan Hewitt was chosen from among hundreds of entries to exhibit in the 2001 Portland Museum of Art Biennial. . . . Craig Dickinson wrote that he ran the Maine Marathon last October. He ran by Terry Wyman's street at mile 7, said hello to Howie Yates, who was out walking his dog around mile 9, and grabbed a water bottle and some energy gel from Debby Bittenbender Collins '72 at mile 14 (Dave was allegedly out singing in the church choir). Craig added that he had valuable advice and encouragement from Gary Burfoot, who completed the London Marathon in April 2001 and has run marathons all over the world. Craig reported that the day before the event he spoke with Bill Glennon, who in reaction to Craig's running the marathon asked, "What day do you anticipate the memorial service will be held?" . . . Chip Altholz reported that he and Linda were planning trips to Las Vegas and West Palm in the winter. He spends a considerable amount of time in L.A. managing clients in the film and TV business. He hoped to drop in on Dave Nelson in the spring. . . . Ted Weissman wrote from southeastern Iowa, where he often sees Alan Colby '70, Cindy Jevne Buck '72 and Bill Goldstein '72. Ted is involved in developing wind farms throughout the Midwest, and he still enjoys swimming, running, biking, sailing and skiing. Ted also finds time to have a second profession practicing transcendental meditation and the TM Sidhi program. . . . Please continue to send news for your class column.

Although I have heard very little from class members this fall, the events of September 11 have overshadowed whatever else has taken place these last few months. My heartfelt condolences to those of you who lost friends, co-workers and relatives in the tragedy in New York City. . . . Wells Pile writes that once he completed a three-year, $3-million capital campaign to build an environmental education center for the Audubon Society of Rhode Island, he left to take a position as director of development and marketing at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island. He and his wife, Marguerite, enjoy sailing on Narragansett Bay. They also revived weekly "Beetle Cat" racing at Edgewood Yacht Club (whatever that may be!) after a 27-year hiatus. They have sons in high school and a daughter at Colorado State. . . . Another classmate who is contributing to the field of health care is Kenneth Viens, who was elected chair of the MaineGeneral Health board of directors. Ken is a certified financial planner in Waterville, where he has been active in numerous community organizations. His activities include serving on the board of trustees of Thomas College, as a member and past president of the Waterville Rotary Club and as president of the Waterville Area Industrial Development Corporation. These are but a few of the ways Ken contributes to his community. He and his wife, Margaret (Felton '77), have two sons, Nicholas and Daniel. . . . That's all the Colby news I have. May 2002 bring peace and prosperity to us all.
