Jesse Salisbury is a sculptor in Steuben, Maine. His large stone sculptures have been shown at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor and the "Exhibition of Contemporary Art, 2001" at Miyazaki Airport in Japan. Jesse also shows his work annually at Peter and Jane Weil's Tunk River Sculpture and Gardens Gallery in Steuben. . . . Michelle Grdina is now working at Harvard University in the class and reunions office of the Alumni Association. . . . Jen Ancker reports that she is still at Atalanta/Sosnoff in N.Y.C. as the director of marketing for alternative investments. She spends her time pitching their hedge fund, Sabre Partners LP, and working with Hedge Funds Care, an organization devoted to the prevention of child abuse and the treatment of those who have been victimized. Jen reports that Anna Redmond is getting married in August 2002 to her business school sweetheart and that Alice Tilson is back in North Carolina attending business school at Kenan-Flager. . . . Bruce Mason is now the publicity director at Overlook Press in N.Y.C. and still throws a mean party! . . . Jeffrey Ball and Brigitte Spencer were married in late August 2001 in Ogunquit, Maine. Sean McBride, Peter Gates and Josh Gravin were in attendance. Sean is living in Brookline, Mass., and is a copywriter for an advertising firm in Boston, Peter recently moved back to Boston from San Francisco to take a job at State Street and Josh and his wife, Kristen, have a son, Turner. Sean also reports that Jason Mahoney is a lawyer in New Orleans and is engaged, Bill Gillis lives in N.Y.C. and is the news editor for Small Computing Business magazine, and Mei Yue Chau is engaged and planning a wedding in New Hampshire next summer. . . . Marc Rubin is moving to San Francisco to open the California office of Parthenon Capital. . . . Alyssa Falwell Ross had a boy, Aidan Thomas, on August 24 (they missed sharing a birthday by a mere 35 minutes!). Maureen Finn Schwartz, Julie Rentz and Kristen Hanssen Goodell came to see Aidan recently, and he has his first official Colby outfit, thanks to Maureen! Alyssa, her husband, Joe, and Aidan have a house in southern New Hampshire, and Alyssa is now back at work as a manager of public relations for MatrixOne, a technology company in Westford, Mass. . . . I went out to Los Angeles to visit Chris Lohman and Abby Eskin '97 in November. Along with enjoying the fabulous weather, Abby is attending law school at UCLA and Chris is working for a Web design firm.

Megan Nicholson, in her second year of medical school at the University of Rochester, received a special visit from her Colby roommate, Kristen Zolla, from Boston. Megan is thinking about returning to Maine for her residency training. . . . Melissa Taylor graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine, where Karen Bossie was one of her classmates. Melissa was married in June to Jesse Beckwith, who is with Bell Atlantic, and she occasionally sees Bernadette Graham, who is working in the Biology Department at Colby. . . . Grace Jeanes is working on her M.B.A. at UMass-Lowell and is a teaching assistant in business finance. In her free time, she traveled to Italy with her family and has started taking drum lessons. . . . Earl Lewis finished his second year of a Ph.D. program in molecular microbiology at SUNY-Stony Brook and celebrated passing his qualifier exam by taking a vacation to Greece. . . . Hillary Brennan is a project coordinator at Anadays Pharmaceuticals; her husband, Todd, is a regional sales director with the Yankee Group in Boston. . . . Georgia Brian completed USM's ETEP program, worked as an ed tech II in a multi-aged classroom in Scarborough, interned in Portland schools and currently teaches at Gorham. . . . Anna Goldsmith is living in Cambridge, Mass., and started a business writing company called The Hired Pens. . . . Eric Gordon, who moved with Duracell from Boston to Connecticut, was married to Katie Quackenbush '99; attending were Roger Binggeli, who married Melanie Macbeth '97 last July in New Hampshire, Eric Schwartz, married in May 2000 to Maureen Finn '95, and John Mendez. John and his wife, Melissa, welcomed their first child, Natalie, in May 2001 and reside in the Boston area with their two border collies. John traveled to Montana in September 2000 to the wedding of Tim Lieberman and Brittany Briggs and is currently working as an IT manager in global process development at EMC. . . . Joy Christoferson was married in June in Amherst, Mass., after she and her husband, John, received master's degrees from Yale University, hers in nursing and his in environmental studies. They moved to Seattle. . . . Zachary Knox was married last year and is living in Delaware working for MBNA and training for triathlons. . . . Dan and Kristen Drake Patterson are working on master's degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Institute for Environmental Studies. She is studying conservation biology and plans to return to Mono Lake, Calif., this summer for her thesis work in environmental education. Kristen was able to catch up with Corey Burnham, Kirstin Rohrer McPolin and Courtney Marum in a mini-reunion in the White Mountains of N.H. last October. . . . Casey McCullough graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in June and is doing his internship in Philadelphia. He presented his research at the American Urological Association national meeting in California last spring. . . . Joshua Morris finished his first year of teaching at the Dublin School after having spent time teaching English in Ecuador. . . . Bill Epps is pursuing a master's degree in Latin American history after spending last summer in Ecuador perfecting his Spanish. . . . Rebecca Mawn finished her third year teaching second grade and is currently working as a tutor and living with Susannah Kowal, who is a physical therapist at a hospital in Salem, Mass. . . . Caroline Ketcham is working on her Ph.D. in motor control at Arizona State University. She is doing research on Parkinson's disease and traveled to London last summer to present her work at the world conference of neurology. . . . Aaron Schlechter received his master's of arts of landscape design from the Conway School of Landscape Design in June. He is engaged to Jennifer Fraulo and attended the wedding of Brian Stenger in June. Brian is a full-time M.B.A. student at the Kena-Flagler School of Business at UNC. Aaron and Brian also attended Mike Sabin and Angel Coyne's wedding in August, along with Nolan Yamashiro (best man), James Howley and Chris Dawkins. Mike and Angel honeymooned in southern France. . . . Adam Muller received a master's in economics from Tufts University, finished a two-year stint at Charles River Associates, an economic consulting firm in Boston, and is employed at DLF Capital biotech firm in Boston and working towards his M.B.A. at the MIT school of management. . . . Dori Desautel was a bridesmaid in Courtney Sullivan's wedding in September. Dori keeps in touch with Kaitlin Graham, who graduated from the University of Texas grad school for social work, and Beth Atkinson, who is in medical school at Vanderbilt. . . . Suzanne Kulin earned an M.S. in communicative disorders from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was married to Tom Moffitt '97 in September. . . . Gretchen Rice is a Web producer at Pearson Education eVentures in Somerville, Mass., and was married in September to Kevin King. They enjoyed a honeymoon in Hawaii and currently reside in Newton.

April Armstrong and Shawn Campbell '93 bought a house in Auburn, Mass., and plan a July 2002 wedding in Mystic, Conn. April is singing with a Boston band and working at a veterinary clinic, and Shawn is a software engineer, designing and programming games for WorldWinner.com. . . . Congrats also to Susanna Montezemolo, who is engaged to Mark Kugler. They have a June 2003 wedding planned in Rome, Italy. She's taking a year off from graduate school to complete a fellowship with Consumers Union, mainly doing policy analysis and lobbying in D.C. . . . Lauren Graham is getting hitched to Adam Harkins in February 2003 on a beach in the Bahamas. . . . Linda Jenkins was recently engaged and has set a spring 2003 date. . . . Cathy Neuger and her husband, Gregg LeBlanc '96, are still living in New York City. Cathy remains in the business intelligence services at Deloitte and Touche but planned to transfer to the Boston office early this year to start her group's service line in New England. She's been in touch with Becky Briber, who is a law student at Northeastern, and Kelly Winchester and her fiancé, Matt Nelson, who just moved back to Boston. Cathy also reports that Christine Brown Irish is a first-year resident at Maine Medical in Portland and that her baby, Madeline, turned 1 last December. . . . Karen Hoppe is still teaching and bought a house outside Portland with her boyfriend, Andrew. . . . Dave Wright continues to work at Deutsche Bank in New York. . . . Hilary Peterson is living in Bozeman, Mont., where she teaches English. She reports that it's been fun catching up with Margot Higgins, who recently moved there. . . . After tying the knot in October, Vanessa Newell and husband Paul Hession bought a house in southern New Hampshire. . . . Heath Laycock and his wife, Kelly, welcomed daughter Samantha Renee into the world on October 26. Congrats! . . . Jennifer Soules is in her second year of graduate school at Boise State University, where she is studying winter wrens in the forests of western Washington. . . . Matthew Toms married Kathleen Kohatsu in October in Keene, N.H. Others in attendance included Scott Monteith, Kate Gluck, Stephanie Healy and Katie Scheffel. The couple currently resides in Cleveland, Ohio, where Kathy is pursuing her M.F.A. in modern dance at Case Western Reserve and Matt is working as a chemical dependency counselor with inner-city youth. He also occasionally leads trips and teaches in Latin America. . . . Yawa Duse-Anthony checked in after being the maid of honor in Vanessa Newell's wedding and reported that Rick Unruh and his wife, Jenny, just moved to Cambridge. She remains in Andover and has a spare bedroom should anyone cruising through need a place to crash. . . . Linc Farr is still working in New York as a writer and associate producer on the show Justice Files, which is co-produced with ABC News and airs on the Discovery Channel. Between seasons, his company is producing a documentary for HBO on the events of September 11, a behind-the-scenes look at the activities of the city government, featuring interviews with Rudy Giuliani and his commissioners. . . . Jon Levin is in his final year at Suffolk Law School. He is engaged to Elizabeth Aloupis and plans a June 2003 wedding. . . . David Regan did a short stint drilling for oil in Wyoming (where, he reports, "I saw absolutely no fellow Colby grads, or very many other types of humans"), and now he digs up old gas stations, pumping contaminated groundwater as an environmental consultant in Portland, Maine. He's also been writing and playing songs in a heavy, but happy, rock band. He recently visited Noah Owen-Ashley and Anna O'Connell in Seattle and keeps in touch with Marisa Nopakun, who lives in Somerville, Mass. . . . In her third year at Dartmouth Medical School, Kara Patterson is most interested in obstetrics or pediatrics. She ran in quite a few New England races last year and won the Covered Bridges Half Marathon. She's run into Treb Becher, who is in his first year at DMS. . . . Dave Hall lives and works in the Upper Valley, where he is applying for graduate schools for next fall. . . . Amanda Sprang moved from Seattle to Houston in October to start a job with ExxonMobil. In February she will be moving to Sakhalin Island, Russia, which is directly north of Japan, as ExxonMobil prepares for first oil in 2005. She estimates she will be there for several years. . . . Liz Baker is the director of annual giving for Cathedral School in San Francisco. . . . Hyun Jung is enjoying classes at the Kennedy School at Harvard. . . . Since graduation, Mark Adelman has been Senator Olympia Snowe's legislative aide (advising on the issues of trade, foreign affairs and the judiciary) and director of correspondence. He lives with Dana Cease and Lauren Bayersdorfer outside of D.C. Dana is pursuing his M.B.A. at Georgetown while Lauren is a sixth grade teacher in northern Virginia. . . . After marrying Kara Clarke in September, Mark House started a new job working for GSI Lumonics in Billerica, Mass. . . . Barb Gordon is living and working in L.A. and spends her free time skating with a women's roller hockey team. . . . See you at the reunion!

Planning for our 5-year reunion has begun. I know a number of you have been involved in this process, and we all look forward to the first of many class reunions! . . . Congratulations to Devin Colman on his engagement to Jennifer Iverson! Devin and Jennifer plan an October 2002 wedding. Devin is a curator for the Macalester College art gallery in St. Paul, Minn. . . . Congrats to Marty Elwell on his marriage to Beth Kuchinski on October 20, 2001, at the Emmanuel College chapel in Boston. Beth graduated from Emmanuel in 1998. Ryan Costello and Dennis Collum were ushers in the wedding, and Alice Wong was a bridesmaid. . . . Dagan Loisel is in his second year of graduate school at Duke University. As part of his program, Dagan traveled to Costa Rica last summer and will go to Kenya in the near future. He says he's enjoying the obsession with college basketball that exists down in North Carolina! Dagan wrote that Ethan Pope is working a full-time job in mental health care and working towards a graduate degree in his spare time. Ethan lives in Brookline, Mass., and sees Paul Caruso and Alex Howard on a regular basis. Dagan also reports that Charles Costanzo is living with or near a whole flock of '98 grads in Washington, D.C., including Eben Peck and Chris Coakley. . . . Last summer KC McClelland left Boston, traveled through Europe for six weeks and relocated to Los Angeles. In September she started as an investment analyst in L.A. KC is currently living in an apartment in Brentwood with a friend from high school. She reports that she is "missing Boston, but loving the warm weather and being closer to home!". . . Also in Los Angeles, Harris Eisenstadt finished his M.F.A. at the California Institute of the Arts in music performance and composition last spring. Harris currently lives and works in Los Angeles as a freelance musician and teacher. . . . In Providence, R.I., Kristina Smith is in the second year of a three-year master's degree program in landscape architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design. . . . Tara Falsani will graduate from Wisconsin Law School this May and move to New York to work in a litigation practice. . . . Kate Laurence graduated from Boston University in January with a joint master's degree in international relations and environmental policy. . . . Since returning from the Peace Corps last year, Kristina Straus has taught marine science for an environmental education nonprofit. Kristina teaches kids of all ages, who travel on field trips to visit the 90-foot research vessel where she works! Kristina, who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, also just completed her first marathon, which was for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. . . . Kevin Thurston is in Bologna, Italy, in his first year at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Kevin says that school is going well and Bologna is a lot of fun! . . . For the past six months, Scott Shirey has been participating in the Fisher School Leadership Program. Pending charter approval, Scott will be the founding school director of KIPP: Delta College Preparatory School in Helena, Ariz. Scott writes that they plan to open their doors to 75 fifth graders in the fall of 2002 and grow to a 5-8 school over a four-year period. . . . Pete Felmly is still living in the Portland, Maine, area and will be working this summer at a law firm specializing in employment and education. . . . Jared Fine is engaged to Elizabeth Hubbard '01! They both live in Minnesota and plan a September 2002 wedding in Rhode Island. Jared is still working on his Ph.D. . . . Congrats to Mila Dickson, who was married to Dr. Peter Rossi in New Orleans, La., on November 3, 2001. Many '98 Colby grads were in attendance, including Tara Falsani, Meghan Fallon, Liz Castagneto, Hilary White and Cindy Lohmann; Meg Greene was a bridesmaid. Mila and Peter will be in New Orleans until July and then move to Winston-Salem, N.C., where Peter will complete his residency at Baptist Hospital (Wake Forest University Medical Center) in radiation oncology. Mila currently is director of cultural projects for the New Orleans Jazz Festival. . . . Jenny Lane enjoys her work as an admission counselor at Clarkson University. In her "free time" she is a volunteer coach for some of the athletic teams at Clarkson, hikes the Adirondack Mountains and still enjoys skiing. Jenny recently became engaged to Ethan Townsend, who went to St. Lawrence University and is now a ski coach. . . . Kendra Ammann and Darren Perry were recently engaged. Kendra is working for ABC News in New York, and Darren is consulting for MicroStrategy, a Virginia-based software firm. Both live in N.Y.C. and they plan an August wedding. Myles Merrell, who will serve as best man, is threatening to bring his blue Mr. Colby tuxedo out of retirement. . . . Graham Nelson and Kirsten Staaterman also were engaged recently, in Chicago, and are planning a September wedding on Cape Cod. Congrats to everyone! . . . I look forward to hearing from you again soon!

Our Gift Committee volunteers will make a big effort to step up class support of the Alumni Fund this year by calling and writing many of you over the next few months. Please demonstrate your commitment to funding the Colby education and experience for future classes by supporting their effort and giving to the fund! . . . Now that I live in Cambridge, I have Colby run-ins much more often. Katie Lawrence still works at Harvard. Lelia Evans is back from San Francisco and works as a Spanish teacher at a local elementary school. Kristy Gould, still at Toth Brand Imaging, went in on a ski house in Stowe with Billy Riley, Ross McEwan, Chris Fleming, Jon Barry '98, Mike Wood '00 and others. . . . Scott Whitlow is doing great in lab research at Harvard Medical School. Scott and his roommates, Dave Neskey and Ezra Dyer, hosted a party this fall, where I also saw Amy Erdmann (still in accounting and studying hard to complete her tests), Raj Khunkhun, Brian Quinn (Raj and Brian are roommates in Cambridge), Kate Lowe (who continues to work at Investors Bank and Trust), Wilson Owens, John Doyle (Wilson and John live in Stamford, Conn., and work in Greenwich), Chris Rogan (in the Navy and working his tail off in medical school), Shezad Habib (living with his brother in N.Y.C.), Melissa Gerbi (in marketing at Blue Cross Blue Shield and loves it) and Jesse Dole (getting married!). . . . Delphine Burke got back from her trip around the world and lives with Ben Liston '00 in Boston. . . . Jennie Record moved to Dublin, Ireland, where she is working and living. . . . On October 7, 2001, Jacob Berg and Rebecca Plummer tied the knot. Dennis D'Angelo, Will Barndt, Kris Murphy and Josh Young were in the wedding party. Heather Davidson attended. . . . Ben Langille is in his second year at Boston College Law School but will be in N.Y.C. this summer as a summer associate at the law firm called Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. . . . Robbie Koh is in school at UNE in Maine and has two more years to finish his master's in physical therapy. In January, Robbie went back to Colby for two months of a clinical rotation and worked with Tim Adams and the sports teams smack dab in the middle of hockey season. . . . Sarah Nadeau lives in an apartment in Portland, Maine, and is an accountant at Berry, Dunn, McNeil & Parker. . . . Sarah Hewins and Alexis Azar moved to Sydney, Australia, to work and play for the next year. Check out their adventures at www.18hourflight.com. One night out on the town they ran into Dylan Commeret and Ken Wilson '96, who live two blocks away from them! . . . Samantha Bender is in the post-baccalaureate program at Columbia and getting ready for vet school. . . . Crystal Brakke moved to Boston and is now working in recruitment with Teach For America. . . . Contrary to what was written in the last issue, Kristin Engel and Beth Lang are not living with Robin Torbeck in Bar Harbor. Robin moved to Venice, Fla., for the winter, Kristin is in Boston working as an analyst for Broadview, a mergers and acquisitions investment bank, and Beth is living in Cambridge, England, with her husband, Jonathan Hughes. They got married in October. Beth earned her master's in England two years ago. . . . Kristy Tracy is in Portland, Maine, and in her second year of law school at the University of Maine School of Law. Kristy recently got engaged to John Dawes of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and they will be getting married on May 25, 2002! . . . Jennie Oberzan, who has been working for the past two years in Washington, D.C., as the assistant to the executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, a national nonprofit advocacy group, recently married David Versel, with Katie Quackenbush Gordon as a bridesmaid. Jennie and her husband own a house in Takoma Park, Md., but hope to relocate to Maine. . . . Liz Bayne is living in Boston and got married to Ethan Budiansky in August. Mariek Schmidt and Jill Morneau read selections in the ceremony, and Cam McDonough '00 and Laura Mitchell were bridesmaids; Ali Tetler and Anne Nettles attended. Liz is looking forward to going to the Peace Corps in Senegal. . . . David Wilkens loves his life as a math teacher at a small private school north of San Francisco. . . . David Black has returned from California, where he managed a club, and is now working in the snow sport industry as the director of partnerships for SnoCountry Worldwide, based in Lebanon, N.H. . . . Carrie Dube still lives in Arizona, where she is working on her master's in chemistry. Carrie is engaged to James Plucinski. They met in graduate school and plan a fall 2003 wedding. Mackenzie Dawson will be a bridesmaid. . . . John Evans is working on his Ph.D. in biophysics at the University of Michigan, using X-ray crystallography to study proteins involved with cardiovascular disease. . . . Emily Dowd is in Athens, Ga., her hometown, teaching high school French for the second year and looking at grad schools. . . . Megan Watson is in Los Angeles working at a company called Pallotta Teamworks. . . . Patrick Upatham works in Cambridge, Mass., in the digital security industry. He deals with secure network infrastructure design, network vulnerability testing, secure build operating system design and implementation. . . . Abhishek Ranjan is working a much calmer schedule than his prior 70-plus-hour work weeks.
