What is Colby Connect?
Colby Connect is a new web-based networking platform dedicated to helping Colby alumni connect with former classmates; mentor and coach current students and recent graduates; and expand their career connection through insider contacts in top companies. It also helps parents to share opportunities with Colby students to expand their career opportunities through insider contacts in organizations and companies around the world. Users can also find out information about alumni programs, events, jobs, internships, and more using Colby Connect.

 

What about the old alumni directory?

This directory no longer exists given changes in software and information protocols. However, if you are looking for alumni information for a specific individual and not part of Colby Connect, we’d love to help you find your former classmate!

Are all of my classmates listed in Colby Connect?  What information is public?
All alumni that have a profile in the alumni database will appear in
Colby Connect.  The name, industry, and grad year are listed until the profile has been activated by the user.

 

I’m not interested in all of the mentoring options, but Colby Connect shares all mentoring options with me.  Why?
One of the main benefits of
Colby Connect for alumni, students, and parents is the mentoring feature.  You can choose as many or as few mentoring options as you like. Mentoring is encouraged, but an optional activity for all alumni and parents.

 

What will Colby do with my personal information that I list in Colby Connect?
Any updated information contained in your
Colby Connect profile will be used to update the information Colby currently has for you.

 

Does Colby Connect have a search feature?
Yes.  Users can search by name, graduation year, industry, and more.


Can anyone access Colby Connect?
No.  All users will be invited and authenticated by Colby staff prior to using the platform.  The approval process takes 24-48 hours for new members to be authenticated..

 

What are the terms of use for Colby Connect?
Please visit here to read the entire terms of use for all users.  By way of example, and not as a limitation, you agree that when using this platform, you will not:

 a)     Use the services in connection with surveys, contests, pyramid schemes, chain letters, junk e-mail, spamming or any duplicative or unsolicited messages (commercial or otherwise).

 

b)     Defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights (such as rights of privacy and publicity) of others.

 

c)      Publish, post, upload, distribute or disseminate any inappropriate, profane, defamatory, obscene, indecent or unlawful topic, name, material or information.

 

d)     Upload, or otherwise make available, files that contain images, photographs, software or other material protected by intellectual property laws, including, by way of example, and not as limitation, copyright or trademark laws (or by rights of privacy or publicity) unless you own or control the rights thereto or have received all necessary consent to do the same.

 

e)      Use any material or information, including images or photographs, which are made available through the Site in any manner that infringes any copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, or other proprietary right of any party.

 

f)       Upload files that contain viruses, Trojan horses, worms, time bombs, cancelbots, corrupted files, or any other similar software or programs that may damage the operation of another’s computer or property of another.

 

g)      Advertise or offer to sell or buy any goods or services for any business purpose, unless such communication services specifically allow such messages.

 

h)     Download any file posted by another user of a service that you know, or reasonably should know, cannot be legally reproduced, displayed, performed, and/or distributed in such manner.

 

i)       Falsify or delete any copyright management information.

 

j)       Falsify or delete any copyright management information, such as author attributions, legal or other proper notices or proprietary designations or labels of the origin or source of software or other material contained in a file that is uploaded.

 

k)      Restrict or inhibit any other user from using and enjoying the services.

 

l)       Harvest or otherwise collect information about others, including e-mail addresses.

 

m)    Violate any applicable laws or regulations.

 

n)     Create a false identity for the purpose of misleading others.

 

o)      Use, download or otherwise copy, or provide (whether or not for a fee) to a person or entity any directory of users of the services or other user or usage information or any portion thereof.

 

p)     Interfere with or disrupt the service or servers or networks connected to the service, or disobey any requirements, procedures, policies or regulations of networks connected to the service.

 

q)     Violate any code of conduct or other guidelines, which may be applicable for any particular service.

What are the benefits of logging in with LinkedIn or Facebook?
Logging in with LinkedIn or Facebook speeds up the login process and allows for fluid profile updates to occur based on the information you have shared on LinkedIn or Facebook profiles.

I recently updated my information on my Facebook or LinkedIn account. How do I update this information in my Colby Connect profile?
When logged into the platform, click the “update your profile” button in the top-right corner of the page. Select the “Sync now” button. Click “I’m done updating” in the top-right corner.

I manually updated my information, but it’s not appearing that way in my profile.
Each section on the “update your profile” page has its own individual “update” button. You must click this button for each section you update before clicking “I’m done updating” when you’re finished.

 

What if I don’t have a LinkedIn or Facebook account?
You can log in using an email address. If it is an email address we already have on file, you will be automatically approved. If we don’t have the updated contact information, your approval will be pending, and the alumni office will verify your information in 1-3 business days.
