Schair-Swenson-Watson Alumni Center ![]()
The new alumni and development center, located with appropriate symbolism at the heart of the campus, will address several of the College's most critical priorities. It will provide a venue for alumni gatherings and other events, including campus events that will nurture in students a sense of their future privileges and obligations as alumni. It will address the issue of administrative overcrowding and the need to consolidate College Relations functions in one building. It will permit a series of office moves in other venues that will significantly increase the amount of office space available for faculty, including faculty on sabbatical leaves. And most importantly, it will provide a physical location for Colby alumni commensurate with their role in shaping Colby's future—at the center of the College. Colby's new alumni and development center will be constructed of traditional Colby brick and wood, using the architectural vocabulary of the campus's Georgian tradition. Located on the border of the proposed new Colby Green, the building's public rooms will present sweeping vistas of Miller lawn, culminating in the library tower with its Sloop Hero weathervane.
