Schair-Swenson-Watson Alumni Center

Ground Floor

Near the center's main entrance a handsome library will provide a welcoming spot for visiting alumni to relax, meet friends, check e-mail, and obtain information about campus events. Decorated with traditional Colby memorabilia and furnished with comfortable chairs and couches, the library will provide a reading area, as well as space for committee meetings, class reunion receptions, and other events.

Adjacent to the library, an office wing housing the offices of Alumni Relations and Donor Relations will be conveniently located for visiting alumni and friends of the College. We hope to name this wing to honor the memory of Bill Millett and seek gifts from potential "Millett Partners" to bring this hope to reality. Offices for CRISS (College Relations Information Systems Services) will be housed in the opposite wing.

From the main entrance, a long gallery featuring historical Colby photographs leads to the Event Space—a large, flexible function space that will be able to accommodate seated dinners of up to 120 people, meetings of the Board of Trustees, lectures, Alumni Council meetings, and other events. The Event Space will provide a view of Miller lawn and the library tower and will open onto an expansive view of the new Colby Green.

Adjacent to the Event Space, a large multipurpose function room will provide facilities for committee meetings, receptions, and other gatherings.

The remainder of the ground floor will accommodate a catering kitchen.

Second Floor

The second floor, reached by both elevator and staircase, will provide two additional conference rooms for committee meetings and use by College Relations staff. The second floor offices above the Millett Wing will furnish offices and studio space for the Communications Office, which produces Colby magazine, the Colby College Catalogue, admissions and other publications; manages the College Web site; and interacts with the press.

The Office of the Vice President for College Relations and the Office of Capital Giving will occupy the central wing of the second floor, with Annual Giving occupying a third section of this level. The second floor also will provide workstations for student workers, printers, copiers, and the other necessary support technology required by the Division of College Relations.

Basement Level

The lower level will house a phonathon room for the Annual Giving Program; a photo studio and radio studio where Communications staff can do photo processing and provide faculty members with a sound-proof venue for radio interviews with the media; a mail and staging area; storage space for alumni records, class banners, and reunion materials; a break room for College Relations staff; and a mechanical room.
