Alfond Athletic CenterThe Harold Alfond Athletic Center is one of the outstanding sports facilities in New England, especially after a major expansion and renovation in the 1990s. The field house encloses an eighth-mile track, four tennis courts, a batting cage, and enough space for team practices. The complex includes a 25-yard by 25-meter swimming pool, the Alfond Ice Rink, and Wadsworth Gymnasium, with 2,500 seats and two basketball courts. The Dunaway Squash Courts, a climbing wall, the Boulos Fitness Center, saunas, the Carl Nelson Training Center, and locker rooms also are part of the facility. Outdoors are the fully-lit synthetic-turf Bill Alfond Field, the 400-meter Alfond Track, the Alfond-Wales Tennis Courts (12 hard-surface courts), and 50 acres of playing fields for varsity, club, intramural, and informal sports activities.
Colby has 32 varsity teams: 15 for men, 16 for women, and one co-ed (golf). All compete in NCAA Division III except for skiing, which competes in Division I. Students also play intramural sports and for club teams.
