| Home to: Residence halls | | Mary Low and Coburn halls were the first residence halls built on Colby's Mayflower Hill campus. Mary Low was named after the first woman to graduate from Colby, a member of the Class of 1875. Coburn was named for Louise Helen Coburn, who, in 1873, was the second woman admitted and later a trustee. Built in 1942, Mary Low and Coburn were completely renovated in 2001. The Mary Low Coffeehouse is a small cafe that hosts events ranging from student poetry readings and open mic nights to nationally recognized singer-songwriters. Each Friday afternoon in the Coffeehouse, international students put on a coffee hour open to the College community. | Colby was the first previously all-male college in New England to admit women. In 1871 it admitted Mary Low, who graduated first in her class four years later. |
